ACD/AYC bleeding question?
ACD/AYC bleeding question?
i swapped my 6 speed gear into a 5 speed, this required the front brace to be removed and hence the lines going to it from the AYC/ACD pump in the back had to be removed aswell, all the fluid was wasted during the process and the bottle in the trunk is empty, i wanted to know when i fill it back up do i need to bleed it? iv'e heard unless you dont remove the ACD/AYC pump you dont need to bleed it. is this true?
If you disconnected the ACD line at any point in the "system" then you have now introduced air into it and as such need to be bled again.
EDIT: Beat me to the punch...exactly what he said, its a hydraulic system afterall.

and to bleed the ACD i need to put the ignition in ON position to activate the pump right?
what about AYC, if i need to bleed that aswell, what procedure does that require?
Sadly I have no experience with the AYC rear diff. I believe that the pumps are similar except the JDM ones have 2 solenoids 1 for ACD and 1 for AYC. Whatever lines you opened up that system now has air in it. The reservoir going dry might mean that both need to be rebled at this time granted if the solenoid didnt open for the AYC then it may be fine. Personlally I'd just bleed both to be safe. Im guessing there is a bleeder nipple on the rear diff similiar to what there is on the ACD or a brake caliper bleed nipple. I used to do the gas pedal flooring method but that never really pushed much fluid.
Last time I made myself a lil harness and connected it to a 12v power source. What I would do is activate the pump for a couple seconds until you hear the sound change. Then I would pulse the solenoid and open the nipple. I found this method to be far more effective last time I had to bleed the system.

I dont have an AYC rear diff so no bleeding there required for me. The bleed nipple for the ACD is located on the bottom of the transfercase. There should be a lil black rubber cap covering it. Should be obvious when you're under the car. Good luck!

Yes they use the same fluid. And, correct you fill the fluid wherever your reservoir is which in your case is in the trunk. However, the bleed nipple is not located in the trunk but rather on the transfercase and Id guess on the rear diff for your AYC.
although i had to take out the ACD line in the transfer case, but that is in the front.
