Will an fp red blow my engine
Will an fp red blow my engine
I have an evo 8 with 151k miles on it and want to put a fp red on it, but I am worried about destroying my engine
will be on 93 and possibly e-85
mods:
arp head studs
s2 cams
1050 injectors
intercooler
wallbro 255
k&n kilter

I don't have a red but I have been considering the same question. IMO its certainly not a foregone conclusion that you will have a failure related to the red. I do believe the red is capable of producing enough power though to potentially lead to a failure of the bottom end. So what it really comes down to is the tune and keeping the power within a safe level. There is no free lunch though and having a turbo capable of the power the red is does come at a cost to boost onset and transient response. So for me it leads to the question of do I want to take the penalties if I won't really be able to get all the benefits.
The other issue I have been considering is the change to driving style, obviously one would have to operate the engine at higher RPM on the regular to be in the power band with a larger turbo, and I do worry somewhat that change will have its own set of down sides on a well seasoned engine. I am looking forward to seeing what others have to say on this too.

No.
I can't believer this question still gets asked. A **** tune will blow the motor up with the stock turbo just as easily as with any other turbo.

Turbos dont blow up motors. To much load via power or pressure spikes from knock kill motors.
You should think, how much load can my 151k motor take. But yes, a red, assuming other variable are there to let it flow and fuel is there to fire it, can make enough load to blow your motor. But it can also make power your motor can handle for years and maybe even more safe power by reducing torque spikes since it spools slower.
