Clutch issue

Car is a 2003 evo 8 with 180k miles, I daily drive it. About 20k miles ago I had the clutch replaced with a stock Mitsubishi flywheel and ACT hdss street clutch kit. Car got tuned at KTmotoring and is making 290hp (good enough for me for daily).

Clutch grabs towards the top, but sometimes changes position depending on what gear I am in? Also latley it has been locking me out when I try to down shift, like when I have the clutch pedal pressed in the RPM’s don’t drop, if I hold it down it takes like 3-4 seconds for the RPM’s to fully drop to where I don’t get locked out and I am able to change gears.

ps. Sorry for the bad explanation, I’m horrible at explaining lol.

Thanks for looking,
Kyle

Did you try adjusting the pedal?

I did when I got the new clutch installed, haven’t since, I thought these were self adjusting from the slave? In order to fix this should I try clockwise or counter clockwise?

theres a mechanical adjustment on the pedal. You want about an inch of free play at the top of the pedal.

Problem still persists sometimes now, although gears 1-2 got way better! They are smooth as butter now. It happens only when trying to down shift gears 4-3. Its almost like the gear doesn’t want to come out so I have to put a little more force into it to take it out.

Okay so, my pedal got way softer, almost like “squishy” ? And it did it again in 2nd at a stop light, taking it out of gear seems to be the problem I also noticed it happens when the idle RPM’s are lower then the idle RPM’s. I think I’ll try replacing the master cylinder and slave cylinder and bleeding the system.

Look up in the bell housing through the access hole on the bottom. Try to see if the throw out bearing is falling apart.

Found the issue, my clutch was bad, it was the old “style” ACT with that janky chinese/plastic ring in the middle of pressure plate along with the throw out bearing. It was causing it to get stuck together sometimes on decel. Weird but just ordered a new clutch from act with that “all metal ring” I guess they updated their clutch a bit.
