Is cooling the turbo necessary?

Hi all,
My coolant inlet pipe finally rusted through and is leaking badly. Mitsubishi no longer makes the OEM part and the only aftermarket one I could find form Burschurs has removed the nubs for the turbo cooling and throttle body cooling. I'm not worried about the TB, but if I go this route, I'm afraid of what would happen if I stopped cooling the turbo.

It's a daily driver, not track car.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
AC

I personally wouldn't go that route on a daily.
A quick google showed a few options of other places that make them with the ports or you can go the ebay/partout route.

The turbo requires water cooling. You will hurt it running it without water.

Turbos that don't, like precision, are specifically designed that way.

I seem to remember that some aftermarket turbos are oil cooled so they dont coolant lines.

The OEM turbos are all water cooled and oil fed though. You can use a stainless steel line to feed the coolant into the turbo just needs a barb adapter.

Got it, so you are saying to route a coolant feed line from somewhere else if I go this route.

Seems the leak was a hose that I had a replacement for. Location made it look like that pipe was leaking, but it seems intact. But that pipe still looks nasty. So crisis averted for now, but good to know going forward. Definitely on my to-do list on the next major overhaul (like timing belt).

Thanks.

The pipe is steel so its better to get it zinc coated or spray a rust inhibitor to prevent further corrosion. Also you can get it powder coated and the media blasting will remove the corrosion. There are many methods to make it last longer. The easiest is to just use a green scouring pad to remove rust and spray paint or polish it up with something that offers rust protection.

you could buy the buschur pipe and have a local welder welds the nipples on the pipe for water to turbo feed.
