EDIT: Someone pointed out that the compressor wheel is different between the TME turbo.. I don't know the specs of the wheel or whether or not its better or worse than the combination "Frankenstien" setup I have..
TME turbo supposedly flows more air than standard evo turbo.

HI,

I have an Evo VI RS-2 spec....using the aluminum/titanium 10.5 cm2 turbo (which is what I think FP is selling - TD05HRA-16G6-10.5T) It's great...spool up no problem!! Ton's of top-end for a turbo of this size....my car pulls hard to 155mph. This is the best exhaust housing to use!

The really TM turbo is the TD05RA-15GK2-10.5T which sell for big $$$ upwards of $1500 usd i'm told. This compressor housing is slightly larger with a 3mm bigger inlet, it's supposed to increased flow for stronger mid-range to top-end power...

I have a friend with EVO 7 with stock GSR turbo TD05HR-16G6-9.8T same as USD evo 8. We have pretty much identical mod's (exhaust, HKS 264's, f/pump, b/cntrl, air-filter [Evo 6 uses K&N drop-in], 02 housing & d/pipe), he's running 21 psi & I run 18psi. His Evo 7 produced 330whp & my Evo 6 290whp. When we drag race I am always 1-2 car lengths ahead of him, eventhough he has 40 more whp than me.

I think it because of the turbo, his car runs out-of-breath quickly & actually lacks the top-end of my Evo 6.

Just my observation & input though.

Yep, but the irony is the 15gk2 is a size smaller than the 16g6 wheel. It's just a large change in A/R really with a more efficient wheel....

It'll be interesting what this hybrid gives me with my mods then.. It'll obviously be an improvement over the stock Evo8 turbo..

Do you plan on cleaning up the turbine housing?
I'm sure you'd pick up a few rpms on spool-up.

The inside of the housing is machined so it's pretty good looking, it's just the exhaust inlet that is in need of extrude honing.

How much difference do you think porting the FP hybrid would make Jack?

Probably pick up a bit of air volume.. Its hard to say because it will really depend on how efficient the compressor wheel itself is.. If its overengineered like I suspect, I'll probably be able to sustain a bit more air volume at the same pressure.. especially porting the scroll and inlet.. Who knows, it may ruin the turbo too.. I would think between the lightweight components, the 10.2 nozzle and a bit of careful porting, it should make quite a difference, but I think the difference becomes much more dramatic when you have all the supporting mods, since the key is the allow the turbo to not work as hard, and move that air volume without restrictions (which will cause additional heat)..

BINGO!!!
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Moving air is the whole job of the engine, the more efficiently you do it, the more HP/TQ you get.
Thank you

Anyone who tracks their EVO tried the Evans system for cooling?

I've not seen the castings, so I didn't know how "dirty" they are... which lead to the question.

Interesting thus far... I'll have to finish reading it later.

Interesting, It seems that (if I recall) Chevy has done this on some of their cars. But its certainly worth trying as part of a whole cooling system upgrade. For me its also important that it be somewhat environmentally friendly, so I'll be doing further research on it.
