Would you trade your Evo for a Z06?
Depends.
I seriously tried to broker some deals for an '03 Z06. And I think if I had a few more bucks for a decent everyday car (Cooper or Mazda 3), I would've went and done it.
I want to do T1 in the MR, but the problem is unless it snows, you're a rolling speedbump for the Z06 and occasional Viper. Right now I'm still searching for a good race league in which the MR isn't put into top classes where extremely high-powered V8s rule. Remember, it's about going fast in the fast parts, and a well-tuned 500HP car tends to dominate.

Haha. I am still interested in the car, but I'm going to keep the Evo for 6 more months or so before I decide to do anything or not. This is a great discussion though.
I've owned an 02 Z06 and an 03 EVO and if you want the raw power/accelleration then the Z06 is better. The EVO has better road feel and responsiveness. The practicality of the EVO is nice. The Vette feels like you're sitting on the pavement and forward visibility in traffic is marginal. Financially I'd say the Vette makes more sense. The long term viability of Mitsu might be a decision factor too. I guess it depends on how much money you have to add to the deal. $5k or less, make the swap. If you're adding $10k stay with the EVO.
I just had to comment on this post. I doubt anyone will see it since it's been forever ago.
I just sold my '02 Z06 after winning at every event I ever did. On the street, the Z06 came in first everywhere....Racing, girls, pulling up at the club....whatever! A Z06 has way more image and success behind it's looks.
The Evo is a teen-agers car dad buys for them. I am 32 and a racer....the Evo with it's bullett proof motor and technology is what got my interest. I have to put up with all the cute girls looking away when they see it's an old man driving the evo.
Mechanics always ask why I am driving my sons car.
Other than the panache, the EVO has some first rate track abilities which is why I am driving the new MR. Not as fast up top in my opinion, but pretty peppy down low. I haven't had a big track event yet to get a good comparo but the MR definitely feels empty after the initial boost hits............
I put about $8000 of upgrades in my Z06 which I felt made it a #1 Z06!!! The same or less in the EVO should do the same!
A single guy like yourself would probably do better with the Z06. Just don't try and beat an EVO off the line with both your hot chicks all cramped in the passenger seat.

You are insane, you know that? As long as we're making zombies, why would you mess with a winning formula? You obviously knew how to drive the car well and work with it, do you have the same chemistry with the Evo?
I just watched my '98 C5 go driving up the street and Im going to try and pick up an '05 VIII tomorrow.
After a year of owning the C5 I realized Im just not a "Corvette" person. The car was fast and handled very well but I just wasnt very attatched to it. You really cant go wrong with either car (especially when talking Z06), personal preference will be the factor in whether or not youre happy or not.

I can tell you this about the Z06. The amount of power is way above the handling level of the vehicle. I drove one of these 6 speed on a track at a GM driving day and it felt like more power than any other car I have ever driven. You just feel it pushing you hard into the seat at any RPM in any gear. With that much power you have to be really careful though when it comes to cornering. The car has great traction, but that's not enough to save it if you push it too hard. There was a guy who drove ahead of me that completely spun out going around a curve in the track. It's much easier to break traction and loose control in the vette than an EVO, and once you do there is no 4 wheel drive to save your ***, you are pretty much done for.
