Would you trade your Evo for a Z06?

The one thing I never liked about my Z was the shifter location...it just never felt right with my long monkey arms...
As for the Z being junk, I can't see that...the drivetrain has a great solid feel, takes abuse well, and the engine makes some sweet music. The seats suck... there really is no excuse for those...
Is this a straight accross trade, or do I have to pay the difference in value. Straght across, yes I'd trade for a Z06. They are faster than an EVO on the racetrack.
But my EVO RS cost $26,100 new, and a new C5 Z06 cost well over $50,000, or at least twice as much. I don't know if there are any new C5 Z06s left, and the C6 Z06 is probably a year away and a $60,000 car. But with 500 hp its gonna kill everything else at the track that costs less than $150,000.

Evo vs Z06
I found this question interesting because I really liked the looks of the new C6 but it was out of my price range. I went to check it out at the dealer and everything was great until I sat in it. I wasn't able to adjust the seat, but it just didn't feel right to me. I guess I could've gotten used to it over time. A month later I just happen to see a new RS at the Mitsu dealer and took a test drive. This is what I think a performance car should feel like and for half the price. The choice was easy for me since I couldn't afford the 'vette anyway. If I had 50g+ to spend it might have been a different story. Would I trade for a used Z06? Not right now, I'm having too much fun in my sleeper!
I would love to have a ZO6 along with my Evo but insurance would kill me. I think if you do buy a ZO6 be prepared to pay much dinero for insurance and be ready for your practicality to be hampered quite a bit.

Richard -- Was that you at Pahrump on Oct 9th & 10th? Hehe, yeah, Z06's are faster on the track -- I see why you say that! Honestly, it's going to be the driver but it's hard to beat the low center of gravity, the huge tires and the endless powerband of the Z06. I rode around the track in a Z06 and that's when I decided I needed one. It is MADE for the track (at least the chassis and engine -- it needs an oil/tranny/diff cooler thought)
I was thinking about an EVO about a year ago but ended up with the car I really wanted -- the Z06 with a roaring V8. The EVO would make a great daily driver/track car though. Now that I have the Z06 I want to feel that kind of power whenever I drive. Hating my Civic but it sure gets great MPG!
To the guy who's thinking about swapping -- well, like someone else said -- make sure you're completely lusting after it, otherwise you'll just be in that eternal search for the right car....
Just thought I'd drop in on the EVO forum tonight -- a friend of mine is thinking of getting one.
p.s. I bought my 2004 Z06 fresh off the truck, 6 miles, for $42,450!!! There were a lot of deals toward the model end and I'm sure there are still some out there...
I was seriously considering a black ZO6 when I ordered the Evo. They have an amazing powerband. I like the Evo stance better, I feel more in control of the vehicle, its a driving vs riding thing. The Corvette sits low, and you sit low in the car. Its not a very commanding driving positiong but at speed you feel like you can mash the gas and go into orbit.
I also looked at a very slightly used Lotus Esprit. I'm too tall for that car but I've never driven anything that made me feel like more of a rock star. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE stops to look at that thing when you go by. I was scared of problems though, I'm no where near a lotus dealership and working on those things is like brain surgery without a point of reference.
The Elise is also nice, same price range as Evo. I think they sold out of for this year long before they arrived though. You'd be stuck going to dupont registry to find one and getting raped.

This is tough. I test drove a Z06... that ***** can fly. I guess it depends on the type of driver you are. I like highway driving myself. What I wanted in the beginning was a Supra TT or a used NSX, but the insurance would be a little much in PA. Philly streets are not that good, so rollin' in an NSX wouldn't be all that smart. The EVO is pretty practical for the environment I'm in right now, but if I lived somewhere that has good stretches of highway, good road conditions, and good weather, I might go with the Z06.
Wow... I wish I had the same "dillema" you've got, lol. Either way you go, you've got a tight car. I've driven a z06, I've driven an Evo, and I've driven a Viper GTS, and my personal preference was a tossup between the Evo and the Viper. The Evo had some laser-like precision with it's steering feel, and nice strong acceleration after 3k or so and you got on boost, I really dug it. The z06 to me just felt like a watered-down version of the Viper - handled about the same (both felt really heavy) had similiar steering feel, but the Viper had such a brutal torque curve that the 'vette felt somewhat timid afterwards. Styling of course, is completely personal preference, but I like the way the Viper looks better than just about any other car in existance (not the new ones though, the 2002 and older coupes.)
If I had an Evo, I think the only car I'd trade it for is a Viper GTS - or something even better than that (911 Turbo, 360 Modena, etc.)
...but then again what the hell do I know, I drive a Ralliart!

360 Modena is a sweet ride, you can rent one in Vegas. (probably not something you can put on an expense report)
You'd probably better be a Ferrari mechanic unless you have lotto bucks. Same with Lotus.
I thought about renting one last time I was there, but was worried about having something happen to it and be held responsible. The exotic rentals have some scary scary clauses in their rental agreements. Its not like your local Thrifty bash and drop. You scuff a rim, your buying the rim. You wear the tires down (and they measure before you leave) and your buying new tires (all 4, not just one). I rented an XK8 and babied the crap out of it.
There is definitely a reason when you rent an exotic, that its always like new.
Porsche, thats something you can work on, has similar enthusiast following to what we have with Evo's. Just hope you don't have and never develop ABS problems.

I havd driven quite a few cars, the best of which were a Z06, a 550 horse supra, a 500 horse 383 Z28, a 560 horse 03 Cobra and I've been in Deciets 420 horse Evo. I have got to say, the most impressive and practical was by far the Evo. The cobra was crazy, the vette edgy but the Evo still a daily driver. If your car is just a luxury item, check out the Z06. But, the Evo's winter capability, ride quality, room, comfort and overall ease of use as well as the mind numbing power Shane got from his and others are getting just makes me drool for the extensive aftermarket.
