Soapbox time... Evo8 Issues...
I'll be looking for the options...patience pays, I hope. But I may end up with an STi. We'll see what the showdown shows (some american car mag is going to put these two head-to-head in the next few months, no doubt). If the ACD and AYC are coming out in six months or a year, I think it's well worth the wait. No worries about the EVO not selling like hotcakes, I think. The US market is just not nearly as discriminating...and much more image conscious than performance educated. The F&F-2 thing will do more for sales of the evo than any diff package...and I think it's prob a lot cheaper for
to promote it that way than through pure performance...We are a select niche group here. Most cash-healthy buyers don't know what the hell a differential is. So I think the good news here (see Broeli ? I'm trying to be "positive" here
) is that we are eventually slated to get AYC/ACD. The market for performance is exploding...I don't think
could miss that...especially watching what the WRX has done for Subaru's image and market recognition. The STi will have to be responded to...
Not to completely go off here...but does anyone know what is up with EI and the 7's that are hopefully soon to be street-legal??
Are they going to be????????????????????

There are people that are riding around in them that say, "Yes, they're already street legal." There are a few people that seem to be fairly intelligent that say, "No, they don't have <insert random-*** certification here>" Not too many of the buyers have addressed these concerns on the forum, but then again I can' blame them when everytime the say something somebody else tells them they're full of $#!@, don't know what they're talking about, and the governments going to come tomorrow to seize their cars. I'd avoid talking about them, too.
Frankly, so long as the state issues me a license plate, that'd be good enough for me. The government doesn't even keep up with illegal immagrants, so I'm sure they're not going to send in a task force to repo a car.

Tux, I think you're on the money about the gov't "repo" program...we can't even repo people who aren't supposed to be in this country and are getting pulled over with no insurance, driver's license, or...VISA for g'sake!! So yeah, it kinda seems to make sense that if a state is going to issue a license plate and register the car for the road...then all the real-world hurdles have been cleared. Also good insight on the owners writing us off.
But I guess I'd still worry about who's insuring the thing and what they will say when there's an injury accident or a collision claim or whatever. That's when the true details get worked over...not when they take your check. But then they might be bound by having insured the VIN despite the regulatory shortcuts taken.
As EI is the most attractive option to me at this point...I would really like to know more about it and it's going to be a real headache to dig down to the real, true, nitty gritty on the street legality. Any help anyone can give...even opinions would be most welcome. Prob off topic entirely again...sorry

wouldn't be a surprise though tux.
I've decided to wait for both to be released and gauge things from there. E8 won't be in Canada in Jan....rumor has it that it could arrive when the 2004's are usually released (late summer early fall) but i'm not going to hold my breath.
won't fix the crash standards on the car for it to pass the regulations here. I'm not sure exactly what it is but I talked to a mitsu dealer and he said it was something to do with US standards crash tests to withstand 4km/h and Canada is 8km/h. I was told it would come out when it's been "redesigned". Great! they are just releasing it to US, i don't see them redesigning this car anytime soon.
Some pretty heated discussions going on in other posts about price becuz the car is in limited numbers. Not sure when u guys see the new models arrive in showrooms, but you may want to consider holding off until the fall if that's when they arrive. I don't think it's right for dealers to charge above MSRP "just because". Should be first come first serve...just my thoughts but some may find it cheaper to wait until the next year models arrive. Might also see the AYC, etc come as options if
feels threatened by the STi.
