intake without MAF
intake without MAF
im thinking about getting the weapon R intake or the injen intake...and i think either one gets rid of the MAF... when MAF is removed...the engine check light comes on...is there a way to solve that?

If you disconnect your MAF sensor, without replacing it with something that can read the air volume needs of the car.. it will either run terrible, or not at all..
you have a choice, Keep the MAF, Swap in a blowthrough MAF setup, or convert to speed density.. Keeping the MAF is the cheapest way to go.. Everything else has its share of tradeoffs, some more than others.
But to answer your actual question.. an INTAKE/MAF Pipe kit NEVER EVER removes the MAF, it just replaces the rubber/plastic intake pipe and some kits come with an air filter kit that will replace the air box.. But your stock MAF goes back on..

...Not on these cars...
my prelude did that, but I don't think evo does that. I actually ran a bit richer after the maf removal. Didn't effect the performance too bad, it actually ran little bit faster.

Yeah, try giving it gas and you'll notice the engine has no way of knowing how much fuel it needs, so it just cuts out.. The fact that it even runs is simply a factor of the idle fuel trims.. I've seen these cars run in closed loop once they warm up.. but once you cross that threshold, your done, it cuts out..
the MAF actually has the IAT and MAP sensor, so removing that removes its entire contact with the air anyway.. In order to remove it you would need to convert to a speed density system since its not a built-in "Failover" function of any mitsubishi ECU..
