Let me tell you: it wont be slower or if it is slightly slower, then that's because of a slight weight increase, that's all.
An Evo 6 has no ACD, an Evo 7 does. They both need the exact same time on the Nürburgring driven by the same professionnal driver. Surely that means they have the same performance?
However, not having ACD means there is no ACD that can break. Which it could after your warranty has expired. Same goes for the AYC, which isnt going to be present on the Lancer Evolution.
The less BS you have on your car, the less can break. As simple as that.
FYI, a friend of mine in the UK broke his ACD unit. It cost him two thousand dollars, yes, you read that right, to fix. Be happy you arent getting it

But what about rallying. Wouldn't the ACD really benifit?

Really, no matter how you look at it, ACD sucks.

Also, not to take anything away from this paticular website or forum, it might be worth your time to spend some time reading the forums over at MLR. There tons of guys on that board that know exactly what they are talking about from experience not speculation. Their opinions are based on experience as well. I think you'll find that Claudius is just bringing over some common knowledge that has existed for years in Europe and the UK.
If you already know about all of this, then just disregard.

From the reports of a friend that did the press drive in Thailand, you are not missing much of anything with the lack of ACD. Simply put, he thinks it's better than the JDM Evo VII because it doesn't have all the electronics and hardware that do your driving for you. It does seem to have been set up for oversteer rather than understeer, though understeer was available, probably to keep to at least a minimum safety level for lesser experienced drivers.
ACD/AYC make the car feel more responsive at the expense of honest mechanical feel, but it didn't necessarily make the car faster in reality. The latest time attack on Tsukuba circuit set another new record of around 55 seconds, set by a JUN Evo, I believe. It wasn't an Evo VII, nor a 6 or 6.5. It was an Evo 5 RS with no ACD/AYC.
Cheers,
Paul Hansen

So, Paul, a while back you said that you will check about the ACD/AYC combo and "gimickhana" (sorry for the spellling) stuff and how benefitial (or not) it is. Did you manage to get any info on that?
Thanks,
Mr. AWD

Gymkana (sp?) from what I know are similar to U.S. autocross, but the courses are a lot tighter, and set up slightly differently. Other than that, should be a lot similar. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me
Thank you Paul Hansen (and Claudius). I think Mitsu should hire you as a P.R. guy(s), because everytime you post, I feel better and better about the 8.

Oh well, "gyme-what-ever" - this post was specifically to the Paul since he promised (or that is a bit to strong of a word
) to check with those guys and see how important ACD/AYC stuff is for that kind of racing. Hopefuly, he will come up with an answer as he usually does!!
Cheers!

Mr. AWD,
Have you seen that video of the Evo 6 fitted with Cusco differentials and no AYC? I'm sure someone knows where to get it, but that thing handled extremely well/tightly with purely mechanical differentials.
Gym-what-ever...
that was funny.

I'm actually OK without ACD/AYC. When you get too confident in the computers then this happens....

Woh, thats a cool vid...But it looks like he blew out his front left tire, judging by the sudden puff of smoke from that part of the car in the turn....which caused the wreck.
