since we are basically on the topic of how to cheat the dealers in a way, how do you guys think this situation would work out: (not that i am doing it, just a thought so nobody start yellin at me for cheatin a dealer or something)
If you basically went with a stage 1 bulid up like full exhaust, intake, MBC, and a BOV. Now that all can be taken off and put back to stock if wanted to without to much effort. I know in 05 the ECU detects reflashes so you couldent do that and get away with it.......now can you get a new ECU for your car, put the reflash on the new ECU to your stage 1 mods and say if you want to take it back to the dealer, take the mods off and put the stock ECU back in with no reflash and stock settings??

Keep in mind i am new to this, i will have my evo within a month, so i have no expierance with any of this yet. For all i know you you might not be able to get another ECU or even if you could change it. But if what i said can happen, might this be worth it to people worried that much about warranty?

Mike

My dealer(service manager who also builds race eclipses) nearest me said that exaust, downpipe, and intake and even mbc(no b.s.) was okay. I guess it really depends on the dealer and your relationship. The dealerships that I've worked with are cool. IMO I just don't think that it's right for them to do sick mark ups. I know they can do whatever they want but I just don't think that it's right how they make money off of people.

I'm curious as to that ecu thing too. Even though I've read on other posts that 03 and 04
Evolution ECU reflashes couldn't be detected.

I second thought now that I remember better, I'm actually pretty ticked off at one of the dealship with the markup. I personally wouldn't feel that bad if I could reflash and they couldn't tell and I took it in for warranty work. This dealership cheated me! I went in looking for an EVO. I told them that I wanted to wait for an MR or an RS. They said NO, NO ,NO. It's for sure not coming, you better get this GSR. "ASK YOUR DADDY FOR MONEY!" were their exact words. I knew they knew that the RS was coming. So I told them to put me on the waiting list "in case" the RS comes. Well it finally came and they called me. I asked them if they could give me a price that was better the MSRP. They replied sure sure come in and we'll talk. Well they didn't give me a better price. They wanted five k over the RS which at the time was well over the GSR price. I finally got my RS from another dealership for 500 under MSRP.

In short I don't believe it's right for people to cheat dealers for warranty work but sometimes dealers deserve to be cheated!

Ya dude, I completely agree with you. I'd own up to everything. It's cool. All I want to do is get an 05 compressor cover and hotside(a little over $700), HKS downpipe, and an HKS carbon ti catback. If for some reason it were to mess up my motor which wouldn't be mod related(although theoretically it could) I'd pay for it(like I'd have a choice anyways...LOL).

Your dad makes money off of the backs of the boors and rubes of America, simply because they are uneducated in the fine arts of swindling, cajoling, and wheedling that are practiced at American dealerships. I am all but 100% certain this makes you insensitive to the many who are denied service. Does that mean it's okay to rip them off? Perhaps it does, in some cases. If a warranty was made in bad faith, why not try and take your hard earned money back from Mitsubishi.

La-la-la-la-la, I can't hear you! I'm living in la la land!
Amen to that! Have you guys seen the Mistu EVO brochure that folds out like a newspaper. "Go forth and mod . . .", pics of Asain guys with hanging around with their modded EVOs, etc. Mitsu' makes its money off the high performance crowd, and it ought to honor the warranty. If they can PROVE that my aftermarket mod caused the problem, then they can deny warranty service. That's what federal law says. If they can't prove, and they deny my warranty claim, they will get a small claims court fight from me.

Clearly some of you take marketing a little too seriously. After it worked and you gave them money, and you signed the paper that in fine print says, "Hey it's Marketing! These are our policies," all bets are off. Just so you know, my family does NOT have a Mitsu dealership so I am def. not here to defend them. I hate Mitsu in fact. It's just about what's right and wrong. It's obvious that a lot of you have a few hot buttons when your integrity comes into question. Sounds like a personal problem to me. Peace.

yes, yes, we all hate mitsubishi, but it's about the principle, not anything else.
