and the insurance thing, are you not worried at all of what will happen to the car in a wreck, or vandalism? can I ask how old you are. It seems strange to find a guy who can swing owning a house on 15k, but still makes what seems to me as reckless financial decisions.
call me car crazy but i think calling my decisions reckless is overkill. i'm 30 and i made a lot of sacrifices to buy a home at 19. I made a lot of sacrifices to own all 3 of my cars free and clear. if i wreck one i won't start crying about how life isn't fair. the fact is i have liability and that makes me a responsible citizen. where's Jesse James? he'd straighten all you people out. i feel like i'm talking to a bunch of mini-van soccer moms.

but then the wife has to approve of all the purchases since it's half her $$... plus, then you gotta let her drive it, and you know she's gonna bring it back with no gas...
Well not if :
1.Your wife cant drive stick shift and hates it.

2.Has better car then you=1999 Porsche boxter(she thinks its better...I dont)

3.Only drives convertibles and they have to be red (she says that blondes look good in red cars)

4.and will do anything to keep you happy!!! yey

By the way, I paid downpayment from pocket not my wifes and Im paying monthly payments by myself. By saying half/half I meant all the other things bills etc.

hey guys,

im looking to purchase a new evo real soon, i am 17 years old and i just got a management position at my job, ill be making about 1000$+ per month and i figured out my payments will be around $400 a month with 10k down for 60 months..i talked to a local dealership and they said they would sell the car AT invoice with just the spoiler..i know i can afford payments on the vehicle but im not sure if i will be able to handle the insurance..

does anybody have a rough estimate on how much an evo8 insurance would be for a 17yr old with a perfect driving record.

Thanks

17 and you want an Evo? Even with a clean record, insurance is going to be out of control. On the order of $600-700/mo. Fast Car + 17 year old = recipe for disaster in the eyes of insurance companies.

I'd suggest saving for a bigger down payment, if you're really serious about getting an Evo.

do this. if you could finance the car and use some other form of collateral you could avoid the collision coverage that auto lenders require. in washington state you don't have to have liability insurance contingent upon certain requirements. maybe its similar in your state. that way you could have the evo and legally avoid any kind of insurance. in case you are wondering the loophole in washington state is you are required to have $60,000 in a washington state audited trust account that is reserved for compensation in some kind of auto accident. i'm not saying its easy, i'm just saying its legally possible.

Depends what your down is. You probably wont get many votes under 500. Mine's 550 monthy for many years to come. It's a fun car, but what a poor investment. Damn me for being a performance enthusiast.
