If I need to leave quickly, I usally start it, wait a minute, then hold the rmps around 1800-2000 (instead of the ususal 1500) that helps to get it warmed up quicker.

very bad idea man, you tring to fry that thing? never ever block the radiator. a person can install a block heater in their car, cheap easy and it just plugs into an 120v outlet. oh dont hold the rpms up like that when it is cold, you will start to hear someone knocking to come out.

Yes, it takes much longer to warm up on colder days (like this morining). I find that the engine warms much more quickly under light load. Here's my cold morning rountine:

1) start and let idle for about 30 seconds
2) Driving out of my parking garage in first gear at near idle (1000-2000 rpms).
3) Drive the first 1-2 miles in first @ ~2000 rpms. The side streets by my house are small anyway.

This takes about 3-5 minutes and usually gets the engine warmed up enough to run a moderate load and get hot air from the a/c system. They key here is getting some load on the engine. It takes much longer to warm up by just idling. At the same time you don't want to put any serious load on it, nor do you want to get into boost.

this is the best way to do it. even the owners maunal defines warming the engine up as letting the car run until the temp. needle moves. then it specifaclly states that it doesn't matter if you start driving at the first sign of the needle moving or if you wait till it's at normal operating temp.

so just warm it enough to get the needle movin' and go!

block heaters isnt the way to go because it doesnt warm the coolant significantly, but it does warm up the oil. Blocking the radiator isnt an option either because the radiator doesnt even come into play until the car almost reaches temp and the thermostat opens. About the only thing you can do is let it idle and do what some have suggested by driving it around at low rpms. I usually drive to 711 to pickup coffee on the way to work, and by the time I'm ready to hit the beltway, the evo is ready to roll.

My local dealer explicitly stated that block heater should NOT be used. Don't know whats the truth, but based on that I wouldn't do it. I find this whole problem quite interesting since up here we've had temperatures WAY below and yet my Evo warms up to normal in about 5 minutes or so. I never warm it at idle, it warms best when you just start driving. It is propably a good idea to keep revs under boost level, though. It also cools down extremely fast! My only complain is that the cabin warms very slowly, I don't like driving with gloves on...
