Titanium Exhaust

I was wondering what is everybodys take on the full titanium exhaust. Are the weight savings worth the extra dollars? Also performance wise are they any better then the stainless steel ones. I am about to purchase and exhaust and downpipe and Im not sure if I should buy the titanium ones. Input appreciated thanks.

Looks awesome, if I had the money I would of bought a titanimum one too. Its a nice amount of weight savngs over stock or even a regular performance exhaust.

I have the Greddy Ti, it weighs around 9lbs. Fitment is great, sits dead center in the cutout and is the same length as the stocker, so it doesn't attract the attention of the police. If you are looking for an exhaust which sticks out, it is not for you. It is a bit over $800 if you shop around. Performance is the same as any 3" exhaust without resonators.

Fatalbert69,
No DP as of now, I have the stock DP and cat. Some people have had a lot more soot on the bumper with the Greddy Ti, for me it has been about the same as the stock was. So you may want to get a heatshield, I just wipe the bumper down every week or so and it doesn't seem to be an issue for me. If you get a high flow cat I imagine there will be a bit more soot. If you go catless, then I think you will definitely need a heatshield as the flames will melt your bumper quick. BTW, the Greddy Ti is actually 80mm but necks down to 3" at the cat. This is a great exhaust, no issues with rubbing on the drive shaft and it does not hang down low after the rear suspension like a lot of the other exhausts I have seen. Also, it is not so shiney like the polished SS exhausts, more gunmetal so it doesn't seem to attract attention. It is loud at WOT, but not annoying or raspy, just mean and deep. However, it does not meet the 95dB limit without the silencer.

In my opinion, Ti is nice only if you are going for extreme weight savings. Almost all stainless catbacks are lighter than the stocker. As mentioned above, Buschur's exhaust is only 16lbs, and thats probably the lightest SS gets. I don't think the sound varies much from Ti to SS, but it could resonate differently, so i'm not 100% positive. The reason why I went SS is because I planned on getting a full turboback eventually which i now have. In total it cost me under 1K which is just over what most Ti CATBACKS are going for. So it didn't seem to cost effective for me to spend $300 more on material when it will accomplish the same thing. The material has nothing to do with power gains, all that matters is design and build quality. Hope this helps, and good luck with your decision!

Forgot to mention, Ti is difficult to weld, so if it gets damaged chances are you will be replacing it. Just make sure you have it on your insurance.

hi_nrg_fizzix, thanks for the info, good to hear this. I was just wondering how the GReddy ti exhaust sounds when you are just cruising along - not too loud? I've had good luck with GReddy exhausts in the past where they aren't too loud during normal cruising / idle, but then they sound loud and mean (good loud and mean, not ricey) at WOT.

I was rearended and I have/had the greddy Ti system. Insurance paid for a brand new one. I never told them I have it on my policy. Then again, anything cat-back doesnt do anything to the car's warrenty and nothing for insurance purposes. So they wrote the check no questions asked.

Trevor,
Cruising along in street traffic it is tolerable inside the cabin, sort of a low pitch HMMMMM sound. I have an RS so if your have a GSR/MR it will be quieter inside with the sound insulation. But it has no resonators, so if you want super quiet cruising I would look at exhausts with resonators. I was at the dealer this weekend, and when they drove my car for the test drive, I was suprised at how quiet it was on driveby.

Monkey,
I think it depends on who your insurance provider is. Mine suggested taking pictures and keeping receipts to make sure I get the full replacement value. Better safe than sorry, IMO.

Cool, that is kind of what I expected. I'm not one of those "omg it's louder than stock - get rid of it!!!" types , but at the same time I don't want to be super loud all the time. I actually haven't gotten my Evo yet, but when I do (probably around May/June), I am aiming to get an RS, so I'll be right there with the less sound deadening material, but I doubt it'll be any trouble. I had an MR2 with a VERY loud exhaust and never minded it much, but I eventually switched to the GReddy exhaust on that car simply because the GReddy made more power and was not as loud during cruising / idling.

Thanks again for the info!

Not exactly positive....but i think that titanium holds a little more heat inside the exhaust than the SS does... Which means a little higher exhaust velocity.
I think it is minimal.
