For me it would depend on how far i was planning on going with the mods and what i wanted to use the car for. It would also depend on what model of evo is within your price range.

It's kind if a pointless question..."TB exhaust, ECU and Intake"...what exhaust, what intake, what ecu, what tune? its kinda hard to compare cars like these in this way...even so, don't base your purchase on such a vague premise...just my 2 cents. Oh, and i'd get the evo,i just prefer it.

since the evo9 is gonna have the MIVEC, does anyone know if that makes it respond to mods better?

No doubt.

Guys, don't think that respecting the STi is necessarily a slam on the Evo.

Looks are personal preference. I personally think both cars looks great (though the 9 looks worse than the 8 which in turn looks worse than the 7), but the STi is a bit more muscular and bulging. However I bought the evo, and I love it's lines.

You guys that think displacement is a handicap are simply wrong. Are you saying that 2.4 stroker motors are a bad thing for power?

And arguing that an aluminum block prohibits power isn't going to work either. I won't say that the EJ20 is a bad motor at all, but there's nothing wrong with the 2.5.

Is someone going to actually argue that the evo drivetrain is better than the sti? Please, please try it either from a stock or modified standpoint.

Don't get me wrong guys, I wouldn't trade my evo for an sti (yet), but as I told the sales manager when I bought my evo, the main thing wrong with the car is that it's a Mitsubishi.

I'm sure there must be some people interested in this (despite this being an Evo board ).

Latest info/rumour on '06 STi (JDM version).

http://www.imprezawrxsti.com/postnuk...23028&start=30

Not sure whether all the bells & whistles will make it to the USDM model arriving later this year but the '06 JDM STi will feature a new turbo, AYC and the restyled front bumper with the new Alfa-like Corporate grill.

I don't believe that either. Look at the thing. It's so easy to see that it's a complete 04-05 body with minor changes from photoshop. I won't believe anything untill I see it in a release from Subaru at an auto show or on their website.
