"the sti's engine wouldn't last that long (when modded) unlike Evo"

Cheerleaders crack me up. Go on a Subaru site and you'll see the same quote reversed. Got your pom-poms? LOL

I'm not 100 percent sure...but, I thought they were coming out with a GT version...read the thing on them that's at the top of the home page for the new forums...

Japan: RS, GT, GSR
US: RS, Evo IX, MR

So our Evo IX is like the JDM GT and our MR is like the JDM GSR. Of course there are minor differences across the board between the JDM and USDM equivalents.

There's not enough info currently available to answer this poll. Nobody knows what the '06 USDM STi will look like or have under the hood. Additionally we don't have any idea yet how the 4g63 MIVEC will respond to modifications. I mean who knows...maybe Subaru will introduce a VVT feature in their new STi.

I hope they bring the 2.0L in the Spec C STi to the USDM version. The aftermarket for that engine already exists. It would be a good match for the Evo. The more competition the better things become for all of us.

The EJ257 already has variable valve timing.

That's the EJ207. If we were going to get that engine, we'd have gotten it already. We got the EJ257 because the EJ207 couldn't produce the power Subaru wanted with our emissions requirements.

Ahhh. Well then it looks like MIVEC was a reaction to Subaru's implementation of that technology. I wonder if the next STi will steal any of the Evo's more unique feature...like the uber-quick steering rack for example.

BTW...are you the same slowride from the STi forums?

One way to get fewer turns lock-to-lock is to simply not turn the wheels as much. That results, of course, in larger turning radius. Hmm... Seems like the Evo does have a pretty poor turning radius.

Yep.

That doesn't make it turn quicker though. The fast steering comes from the gear ratio in the rack and the geometry of the tie rods/steering knuckle.

The STi will be faster and quicker at a BPU level compared to the Evo 9 just like the recent years.

you answered the question for yourself. the bumper has progressively gotten worse. I'm no genious, but there's a reason why guys were running out and getting gialla front bumper fascias for their 8's and I think it's no coincidence that the best parts of the gialla borrowed a lot from the styling on the 7 fascia.

The problem is that car manufacturers think that the aftermarket is an indication of what people really want on their cars so they go out and make a watered down copy of the worst aspects of the most offensive fascias available. What they don't realize is that the guys spending their money on appearance mods like body kits are pretty much exactly what most of the motorsports enthusiasts want to stay away from. And the evo is definately a motorsports oriented car, though mitsubishi's design team obviously patronized the american market with some blatantly 'USDM' only concessions. I still haven't determined if they were intentionally making the car nasty to poke fun or if they thought they were doing us a favor by putting on things like faux-chrome emblems, euro-tailights, and big-boy bucket seats for our beer-swilling masses.

There have been no official photographs of the 2006 STi released. All the images doing the rounds at the moment are simply photoshops and artistic renderings of what they think it might look like. Some are gross and some are pretty cool.........they're about as accurate and pleasing as some of the Evo X photos floating around
