272 CAM install price?

I was wondering what the going rate is for installing a set of cams? Just the cams. I have read $200-$270. Is it about 4 hours of labor doing it with using the belt tensioner tool?

I can't even get my valve cover off in 45 minutes. Granted I was looking for a lifter over the phone at the same time.

I can do it in about an hour, but I'd still charge around $150 considering the amount of work and risk if you do it wrong. Most shops will be around there or a little more. I think Anytihng under $200 or so is pretty reasonable.

I've talked to Works, Vishnu, and ForceFed. Each of these shops wants $300-350 for a cam install with or without cam gears.

Even at $50 an hour by 4 hours, your are only talking $200.00. Most shops are less than that. I had a friend that is a Mitsu superstar mechanic do mine and he cut me a deal. After watching him, you could do it yourself, just remember to get some sealant for every 90 degree angle on the valve cover and DON'T OVERTIGHTEN the bolts on the valves cover. Oh and the cam gears are a pain in a$$ to get off, needed an airgun.
Wait, that doesn't sound easy. After reading what I just typed I would pay someone all over again.

So what is a fair price? I am hearing 200-350... It is a mecanic of my friend that has done it on other evos but he did alot more work on them valvertrain, cams, gears, and turbo. He does not know what to charge for just the cams. He's a really nice guy I want to be fair. Does GREAT work.

all depends on the mechanic, but 3 hrs...sorry but 50 hr is a good rate period, highest I have seen is 75 and the shop sucked....just offer them 150 they should take it, hell I have seen a few do it for 125, but they were private, so a shop has a little more into it, 150 is a great price and should be labeled industry standard(not though).

Well he is "private" he does this on the side.... I believe he is a Lexus mech during the day. Nice guy, and worries about the smallest details. I want to treat him right. But I also am on a budget.

I plan on getting GSC 272 i/e cams, fidanza cam gears, walbro fuel pump, and arp headstuds installed at AMS....these guys know their **** cause they're DSM specialists......it shouldn't take them more than 4-5 hours to do all that, right? Anyone here get their cams installed at AMS? They charge $68/hour for labor, which i think is a tad expensive, but their work is top notch! I dont know, can anyone give me some insight? Thanks, Ryne....
