stock evo warranty
In theory...........no.
Depends what your definition of "abuse" is? If you fry your clutch or bust your T/C, then you're gonna have your work cut-out to prove that you didn't abuse the car.
Remember, the Evo is basically a high-performance road car.....just like many others out there. It's not designed for people to do doughnuts in Mickey Ds parking lot, or race at the drag strip (or even Auto-X). In Mitsu's terms these would all be considered abuse. If they can prove it, they will use it against you even if you're totally stock.
If you stay stock & respect your car, then you shouldn't have any cause for concern

And they cannot, and do not, "void" the warranty. They just deny coverage of claims on an individual basis and sometimes make a note that your car should have a "restricted" warranty. Basically the same thing, just thought I would make that distinction.
You can't "race" meaning "participating in a timed event." They have ways to find out if you did (not that they'll admit to it, though). If you're don't do that, and aren't attending organized street races, you should be fine. Then again, any problem can be solved by "abuse."
By the way, look at the Evo General section's page, and you'll see like 4 threads on the warranty.

Yup, that's about it.
Let's get this clear. A manufacturer's warranty is there to protect the consumer from defective parts or shoddy workmanship when the car was assembled; nothing more.
Virtually all cars on the market are sold simply as a means to get from A-to-B, and some can get there faster than others. They may market them playing heavily on their rally/sporting heritage but that doesn't mean it's a car being sold explicitly (or implicitly) to be raced, auto-x'd etc; even though it's capable of these things when "stock" in moderation.
I think some people get confused about what a warranty actually is.
I'm not advocating Mitsu's stance on warranty denials, but I think we've "all" dug this hole for ourselves collectively....people who mod/race/abuse their cars and then try to claim on the warranty for something that is related to the mod or abuse are the root of this. If you mod/race/abuse the car then please have the ***** and the money to put it to right when you break it. I think we all know that the clutch is a weak point, but if the car is driven properly there shouldn't be a problem. In 99 cases out of 100, I think anyone needing a new T/C case is also a prime "abuse" supsect...................

^ what were the circumstances? My friend has mods on his cobra and ford could care less.
Heck, when I had a mustang, the fixed parts on my car for free even though i wasnt on warranty...i just asked them nicely and told them a car of any caliber shouldnt be breaking like this....several hundred dollar fix....no questions...no bill. Try that at a mitsu dealer.

Ok, here's something for you all to chew on.
Dealers don't get dinged when they do warranty work. They're happy to do it. They just bill mitsu. Problems arise when mitsu turns around and says "that was a voided warranty, we won't pay." Then the dealer has to eat the cost. They, understandably, hate that. But here's how it works: Mitsu says to the dealer, "We think this may have been a voided warranty issue. Send us all the broken bits you replaced so we can inspect them while we check records to see if that car's been in any timed events/races/whatever."
They do this a lot, since "the heat is on" for our Evo's; too many of us break our cars and ask mitsu to foot the bill.
However, the dealer has some leeway. Get a good rapport with them going, and they'll treat you right. I just paid for my 30k service, with all my below mods in place for all the mitsu shop to see, and they replaced my water pump under warranty. Turns out a lot of our 2003 water pumps were leaky, so the dealer knew mitsu wouldn't even bother to check in on my highly modded and warranty-void car.
Considering that the AEM EMS pretty much voids every bit of warranty on that car, including (by some feasible stretch) the water pump, this was pretty cool of the dealer; it shows that they believe in the spirit of the warranty, which was to replace the faulty water pump.
Now, when I showed up *5 hours later* with a destroyed #4 cylinder due to my stupid detonating antics (see my recent post in engines forum), the dealer said, "Well, that'll be about $3.5k to fix, worst case scenario."
And that's exactly what he should have done.

I think I have one that's going to be a grey area.. My car has been modified (exhaust, Xede, ACT clutch, fidanza flywheel) and it has been to AutoX's, a road course and the drag strip. When the stock clutch went out at 28k miles there was no question in my mind that it was not a warranty issue, I was hard on the clutch in the way I used the car so I pay to fix it.
Now I have a grind going into 5th at anything more than 70mph. Should this be a warranty issue? In my mind it should, because I know that I have never shifted to 5th at any of the 'events' I have attended, and it started happening before I replaced the clutch on it. I still haven't decided if I'm going to try to get this warrantied or just live with it.
