Car and Driver EVO 8 Test Figures!

If you rev it and launch a Cobra properly, you can reach 0-60 MPH in 4.5 seconds in STOCK trim. The horsepower is underrated, it is more than 390. Then, change the SC pulley and get a diablo chip, then add exhaust - intake - throttle body. We're talking well over 600 HP for under $2000 in parts. I'll be keeping mine stock for a while. It also has a independent rear suspension, it handles great.

They all plan on the above mods, BPU, and some of them are already going mod wacko... one of them is going with the Ken Belle blower and TNT 150 wet shot!!!!
If you read through the latest 5.0 magazine, I believe it is that one, you will see a bad *** article on how they get 600 hp to the wheels with some relative basic mods... also my really good buddies shop sponsored a car that is featured in the magazine too.
It is the Yellow Cobra from Axis Engineering that ran 8s in the 1/4... the guy who owned the "F8L SNK" (fatal snake), as it was called, sold it and is now one of several buddies who purchased an 03 Cobra.

Road and Track recorded actual 0 to 60 of 5.1 seconds. And that was with a 6000 RPM clutch dump! You can do that with a rear wheel drive car all day long, but do it all wheel drive and you'r tranny will be toast in no time. Disappointing numbers for a car with so much hype. I guess the extra weight really hurt the performance. If you think about it, this car has almost the same power to weight ratio as the g35 sedan.

I think you two guys are the only ones that didn't understand this thread???
The 03 cobra is a sweet car.... I had a 95 cobra and I really liked except for the sloppy handling... was a sweet 1st performance car though - very neutal and forgiving.
I would think about a 03 Cobra except that just wouldn't work in a Minneapolis winter, and I am tired of making 2 car payments.

I am getting my Cobra for under invoice price via my x-plan pricing because my company constructs Ford plants. We haven't started the Mitsu project yet, so no discounts yet! Besides, I'm sick of the dealers dicking me around. Max Madsen finally pissed me off, so I went across the street and told them my situation. They had me test drive a Cobra and it was a life changing experience

Ya know Mike... you are actually getting the perfect car for you. You do seem really interested in 1/4 mile times and how fast it'll take off. If this is what really interests you, yes, the Mustang is the choice.
Personally, I'd like the ability to actually turn and have some sort of handling on my car, since not every street I go on is straight.
To each their own, I guess.

I personally love the 1/4!
However, I already have a car I use for modding and an EVO would be a daily driver with some fun thrown in the mix (BPU) that many years from now could end up being like my DSM.
Gotta love AWD from a stop on the street, or AWD in the rain or incliment weather... and no need to swap the tires or worry about getting caught with "your pants down" if you come across a race that you had not planned for... with AWD you are always ready!!
Many many higher hp cars have lost to my traction filled DSM!!!

C&D reported virtually idenctical numbers when the test drove the Evo VI. http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caran...lass=42&page=1
1/4 mile 13.9 @ 102mph
0-60 - 5.1 sec.
Seems to me that the Evo VI with a lot less weight and more hp would result with better numbers than these.

Did everyone seem to forget that these numbers are just ESTIMATED?!?! They don't anything into count, like a hugely more efficient power to the wheels system, better gear ratios, broader power band, and more and more.
Just because the VI they tested only does the 1/4 in 13.9 doesn't mean that the VIII won't beat that because it weighs more and has a tad less hp.
If C&D believe that, they're on as much crack as some of the number only believers in this forum.

SCC tested the same exact EVO version VI and got a 12.9 @ 106!!!!

I have the magazine right in front of me. May 2000 Sport Compact Car pg 56.
SCC even tested what the EVO VI would do in the 1/4 on dirt... they got a 14.3 @ 97... ON DIRT!

EDIT: I forgot to menion the 0-60 mph time ... 4.8 !!!
200ft skidpad: .95g
Braking 60-0: 117ft
