What is getting me is that most drivers say that the car is much faster with ACD. Is it because the Front LSd comes with ACD?

My question is that is the car faster with LSD/Mechanical or with LSD/ACD combo?

I'm guessing ACD wins on rally surfaces

The evo won't be faster with the acd, it will just allow diffferent settings for gravel, tarmac and snow.

ACD is optional on the JDM rs's? Are you serious? I dont' think i've seen an evo VII without ACD. Or maybe it's a good unit so most people get that option

gtr...the front diff is separate from the ACD hence active CENTER differential...An lsd be it front or rear will do exactly the same thing, distribute to a degree, torque to both wheels on that same axle.....so that in mind, what the ACD does is distribute torque front and rear depending on where the most traction is. the switchable tarmac, gravel, snow, will alow the driver to apply more torque to the front wheels on the latter settings because anyone who has done any sort of theorizing has concluded it is easier to pull the car(FWD) than it is to push(RWD) on a slippery surface..in theory on certain surfaces (mainly low grip surfaces) a new evo with ACD and super AYC will be faster...especially now they have integrated both systems to work together......check out the evo club site for a demo on how these systems work

Yes thats correct.....The rsII was the one with the ACD the rs was the model sold for rallying, it's the car thats been posted with the steel wheels.....our drivetrain is the same as the rs but with a gsr gearbox and no front LSD....the rsII was the model EI was importing not the gsr....I do not think gsr's where available in LHD

Another thing......I have heard it is not advisable to pull hand brake turns in an evo without ACD the 7 with ACD was able to disengage drive to the rear with a viscous center I have heard you can damage the driveline....If anyone can shed some light on this it would be helpful before we all trash our drivelines....Claudius I am sure you know this one????

Long ratios? Not really. How about the 4.5x final drive? That will make for some pretty good acceleration!

The evo vii rs usally comes with the ACD, but it's an option, and you can get one with normal differential if you don't want the ACD.

I know that you will get the rs2 and gsr gearbox with long gears, but I think that for american roads it's a better option, as you get the same 1st and 2nd of the rs, and longer 3rd to 5th.
The acceleration of the rs is only slightly better, and it's also because it is lighter. The real advantage of the rs gearbox is on the rally roads.

BTW the gsr gearbox is much shorter than any german or american car.

The evo fitted with ayc and acd can be theorically faster in a curve as it could deliver more grip, but don't forget that the ayc is something like 80kg heavyer, and that it also depends on the driving style. A driver who likes to drift more, could be slighly slower in the curve, but because of the normal differential get in and out of the curve faster with some drifting.
In the evo vii, and viii with acd and ayc things should be better as you can tune the acd with the ralliart ecu, and the ayc should be better and faster, but it's still heavyer.
