Is the SSL package a must?

I hadn't really considered it before, and options for 2005's may be limited, but does it make a big difference? If I didn't get that as an option, would I regret it?

I was kicking around the idea of a 2005 GTO, 2004 Volvo S60R, or an STI, but with the 0% deal going on right now, I might take a closer look at the EVO.

I love my car now, it's got a lot of luxury, AWD, and lots of power, but it's an auto and it's a heavy SOB.

I didnt get it. My dealership only had 1 SSL and they had it on the showroom floor for a few months. EVERYONE used to go and get in it. Whenever I would be there looking at Evo's for only about 30min to an hour I'd see at least 5 different people get in and touch everything.

I decided to get the normal package (GSR no SSL) due to that reason^^^, and because the SSL was set at a non negotiable price of about 34K, and I only saw myself getting them down to 33K. My GSR was lasted at about 31, and I took it home for 29K. I have been very happy. This is my second Evo, my first being an 03, so I miss the HID's and sunroof sometimes, but I have gotten into racing a lot and those things r items I can live without. But I really want the HID's lol. I think having no sunroof looks clean IMO.

I wonder what I can get a non-SSL for with all the 2005 blowout stuff going on now.

The dealership near me has 1 in Rally Red.

Is the stock stereo without the SSL worth a crap or will I want to replace it?

only reason i would want it is for the HIDs. You don't get HIDs without SSL.

Oh, that kinda stinks. I've gotten spoiled with my HID's now.

I guess I could always go witih some SilverStars, I had those on my last car and they were nice for the price.

I bought a set of aftermarket HID's for my 05 EVO. I too got the non-ssl version. Paid $425 shipped for my HID's and I love it.

its the 8000K 50 watt HI-output kit that www.darksyderacing.com sells....
or you can even try www.blinglights.com

same product

ohh I also wanted to add that my HID lights will make an OEM EVO 8 HID look like its using stock 9006 bulbs

I just traded my 04 IS300 in on a 2005 GSR (non-ssl) rally red. you wont regret it at all. Hids are only 350-400. dont spend the extra 2500 on the ssl package

IMO it is a total waste of money. I have owned two cars with a Sunroof and I rarely used that sunroof. The sunroof adds weight to an already heavy car. Moreover, the extra weight sits high up in the car making it worse on the handling of the car. It reduces the structural rigidity of the car by having a gaping hole in your roof. Moreover, the sunroof reduces the helmet room in the car in case you would want to take the car to a track event. If you are into preformance you do not want a sunroof.

This is a sports car and it does not require leather. Leather requires a lot of TLC. Leather will scold your skin in hot weather like we have here in SoCal. Good luck wearing shorts in the summer and driving the car after it has been parked in the hot sun for a while!!!

The base stereo is extremely good. If you are into music you will want to replace the SSL stereo anyway. Most people into music almost always replace the stock ones that they get.

Save the $2500 for some aftermarket goodies that you will really need

I will grant you the HIDs, but the guy lives in Dallas Texas and leather will burn the crap out of his skin in the summer. You can try it if you want. Park your car in the hot sun, put some shorts and wife beaters on, and then climb inot your car and sit in the leather seat, then come back and tell us how pimp leather is.

The SSL has its perks. The hot weather is defintely a factor for where you live. I Bought my 04 w/ SSL for 30 flat and I love it. Unless you are a obsessed with racing the crappy sub in the back and the sunroof won't bother you at all. I test drove the GSR before I bought mine and the stereo was HORRIBLE, I am by no means a stereo guru anymore but the stock system is terrible, the Infinity system by itself is not worth the extra 3 grand but as a package the SSL cant be beat, specially if you can bring them down on the price.
