Sorry for your loss. Glad your wife is ok. The Evo is a different car than just about any thing else sold in the states. Be careful out there. Don't let your friends or relatives drive it with out some coaching. The car reacts very fast. Some people do not know how to respond to that.
Sound like your wife was just caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm sure she feels bad also. Good luck with insurance.

It covers the difference between your loan and the actual cash value of the car. I'm honestly suprised you've never heard of it. Have neither of you ever bought a new car? The dealership tried to get me to buy into all sorts of things when I got my car including lo-jack, factory alarms, extended warranty, and....gap insurance. Anything to make a quick buck, but it can really pay off considering your car depreciates once you step on the gas.
EDIT: Simply put...Let's just say the actual value of the car after having driven it for 2 days is $25,000 after depreciation for miles, 1 owner etc. The actualy cost of the car is $30,000 (nice round number). The gap is $5,000. Instead of insurance paying $25,000, with gap insurance they would pay the full $30,000. Dig?

Gotta have the Gap Ins. 5 bucks extra a month. Well worth it. 'Cause you never know.

Wow.. intense, i am happy your wife is ok. your car didn't make it tho.. I found it funny to see the little sticker on the door on the driver side is still on there. To bad this is going to kill insurannce....on the brighter side it seems this car is made pretty strong, we basically just had a test drive crash course to see how the car would do. Somehow the wing is fine, so we know its strong. Most of the body is intact, i mean as the body didn't crush. The frontn part looks ok . It makes me feel a little bit safe even though this is tragedy to know that the car can handle a crash... Good luck

Bingo...GAP insurance is the greatest thing ever. It redueced my monthly payment too Ive seen too many people get screwed by banks becuase they werent listening to the salespeople and wrecked thier ride.
By the way.... GAP insurance is only for Front-end intrest loans(dealership), not simple intrest loans (banks)

A $30,000 car will only be worth about $25,000 or so when you drive it off the lot. You wreck it and the insurance company will only give you $25,000, which leaves you short $5,000. Gap insurance covers that amount.
It's totally worth it. I don't recommend ANYONE to buy a car w/o gap insurance.
