To evonsx Jr, my dad knows how to drive manual. he has a manual bmw M3. and what i said about my family not being able to drive it. it was my parents point -- with a manual car only me and my dad will be able to drive it. and my sis or my mom wouldn't. but i am not wanting a manual for that reason. i want it cause it seems you get to know ur car better.

And please don't talk crap about my parents. have a little respect.

and if u can see i admire the evo that is why i came to a evo forum to ask questions, i am not gonna blast down a street the first time i get it. and i really don't expect my parents to pay more on the car for my dumb mistakes. i will not be flooring the damn thing when driving to school guys

and i am not talking about buying the car next week. i still have to turn 16 and get a license. so i will not begin driving the car until i have more experencie and know what i am doing.

Mods on my car? i am not gonna worry about that for a long time.

Ambystom has made many good points in this thread, and it's exciting to see another younger person on this forum who has some sense of reality.

The first thing I noticed before I even read this thread was how rediculous your name was "aznindianboi". WOW... (yes i know lpbevoevo isn't very creative either)

The second thing that made you look rediculous were your replies to the expected "you're too young for an evo" posts. Are you trying to get flamed even more so than you already are? Think before you post.

Get whatever car you want. Why do you care what these people think? They will not be the ones driving and maintaining your car. If you want information about the cars, read about them. They have been published in many different magazines, and in these forums you will get one sided answers along with off topic opinion. Think.

I hope you are happy with whatever you get. The evo is a great car.

i'm 19 and i know some friends with really really rich families who are around the same age as me. out of all the people i know that got a good performance car (Evo, STi, M3, Porsche turbo, carrera 4, s2000, supra, etc), and all except 2 of them crashed their car. 3 of them died from the crash.

now i'm not saying that YOU WILL crash. but just use common sense:

(ur age doesn't matter; it is ur driving ability, which comes from driving experience)

1. u dont know how to drive, let along driving stick.
2. u don't know anything about the cars u listed above. i mean 'vtec evo', are u kidding me? also, the evo does not come in automatic transmission.
3. u dont know anything about maintaining a car.

if u were a father, and ur kid possesses the 3 aforementioned charateristics, would u get a very fast car, like the Evo, for him?

all my friends up there who crashed/totalled/completely destoyed their car up there possess at least 2, if not all 3, of the above charateristics. all their parents, needless to say, regret getting their kids a car that they/their kids 1) dont know what it is 2) dont know how to drive 3) dont know how to maintain.

this is all common sense, nobody is jealous of u if u get an Evo, we're just trying to make our streets a safer place.

way too many accidents occur everyday in this country, and most of them are, proven by statistics, committed by young, inexperienced, clueless drivers.

hope i was of some help. dont take things said here as if everybody's against u. some of us actually care for u & other drivers on the streets.

you know i was going to stay out of this... being just under 21 i know how youre feeling. but to come on here and ask everyones serious opions, and then telling people to basicly screw off because you dont like what they had to say proves you should not drive an evo. i know i would have killed myself in an evo as my first car, and im sure 90% of people on here would agree.
as for your question if youre going to get one of them get an sti that way you arent on here posting about how you just wrapped your brand new evo around a telephone poll.
seriously think about the mini, i almost got one before i ever drove the evo its a sweet car. fast and def. good for a first car

Do you know how to drive stick? This is the important issue, learning on a new 30k$ is not a smart idea, its that simple. It'd be like learning to cook using fillet mignon and truffles.
I'm sorry, and I'm sure you're parents are very very nice people, but it seems like they don't actually know what they're doing, or more accurately, you have failed to tell them everything they need to know. No sane and responsible parent would intentionally buy their child a 300 hp AWD sports car as their first, its a death ticket. As for this "I'm going to be responsible and drive under the speed limit", we all know its BS, why? Because we've been there. I learned how to drive on an automatic Toyota 4Runner, and I was hard on that and it had less horsepower than an evo. All it takes is one of your friends to pull up next to and start calling you a "wuss" or a "chicken" and all bets are off.

Hey, its about time for me to shop for my first car too (but my big rich daddy wont bring his credit card to the car lot buy me one i had to work for it ). Man I love the evos on this site, amazing. But im not a fool, an evo isnt a "first car kinda thing" or not for me at least. I do want to drive a stick tho. I was thinking a jetta .

What do you guys think abuot volkswagen? The thing I like about the jetta is its a good size, I learned how to drive on a freaking cadilac escalade, christ that thing is like a tank. One giant blind spot, look into the rearview mirror and all you see is back seat. Err, i really try not to ramble...

But yea if there is anything you guys/gals can tell me about having a jetta as my first car it would really help. Most important is i want something SAFE. Then comes sporty, is there a lot of ways to hook up a jetta both cosmetic and performance wise? My Father and mother both passed away 2 years ago and they left me some money. I have some put away and im saving some for school, so i plan to spend about 24 grand. Deff. a used car.

Anything you can help me out with i would like

Thanks,
C.L.

All i have to say is that maybe i will be that specail percentile of my age group that don't screw up. and i think i will be ok in school. so far the nicest cars in the school parking lot is a new Rx-8, OZ rally edition, and some old but nice looking muscle cars. i would like to thank you other nice people for the great advice. i am gonna go to the dealership Sat. and test drive it. my dad says he will buy the car right now if i get it in automatic. but then that means my whole family will be able to drive it or i can wait until i get my license and get a manual.

Also i wan to ask. i see people talking about grt evo's, and vtec evo's. are those older model types or is every new evo model that comes out have different classes. all i've seen is the RS, IX, and the MR.
Holy mother of God.

I'm not going to even comment on the comment about CoEvo05 understanding you. Everyone here understands you in this aspect. CoEvo05 sympathizes with you, and also happens to be almost the same age as you.

You are saying, "Hey I could be special and not crash". Well, what do you think everyone else thinks that crashes? Do you think they know they are going to crash? No, they think they are special. I was the same way. When I got my first car at 17, I didn't know nearly enough to have the car that I did and I did end up crashing it (big suprise). I promise to you, you will crash or hit something (doesn't have to be hard) before you turn 18. It will only happen sooner, and you will be going faster if you get one of the 3 cars which you have stated.

Funny thing. Would we have said no if our parents offered to buy us new Evos at 16? No. Thats not the point. Would we ignorant of the consquences of getting such a fast car? Yes. People here are trying to give you wisdom, but you are young and foolish like almost everyone else at that age. People here don't hate you and are trying to help you live to see the age of 18.

Bottom line. You are going to get a car thats too fast for you, and it doesn't matter what anyone here says.

Also, there is no such thing as a VTEC ( ) Evo or anything thing else. The Evo has only been in the US since 2003, and the only types are RS, GSR, and MR.

The 350Z is naturally aspirated, and is heavier than the EVO8. It's also built about 100x better, more reliable, and a lot nicer to drive. My .02

Here's the problem, we (young males) never know when we're in over our heads until its too late. Take this as honest advice from someone whos still young enough to remember the "stupid teen" years, we are wreckless, immature and irresponsible, but we never actually realize it until its either too late, or we get old enough to realize that our parents were indeed right.

Whoa buddy, you must be loaded if you can afford a 35k car for your first car. Anyways, You have quite a range there. RWD, and two pocket rockets that are AWD. Personally, I'd go with the 350Z -- because I'm Z biased, and because I KNOW it's build quality is way better than the EVO and the STI. The EVO and STI are both fast, good in weather, but not nearly as reliable. My .02

The EVO came to the US in 2003. The models from 2003-2005 were called EVO VIII (Thats 8 in roman numerals)

Of the EVO 8s there were the base model, the RS, and the MR. I think one year might have had GSR but I dont know much about that.

The base model was...well...the base model. The RS was like the base model except it was stripped down a little to save weight. It doesnt come with a radio, spoiler, it has aluminum roof and hood, and a few other things to save weight.

The MR is the premium model, it came out in 2005. Its still an EVO VIII, its just called the EVO VIII MR edition. It comes with a 6 speed, bilstein suspenion, aluminum hood and roof like the RS, and a 10.5 hotside on the turbocharger which makes it a little faster.
2006 starts the next version of the EVO. It is called the EVO IX (Thats 9 in roman numerals. 9 comes after 8. Get it?) The main new feature of the EVO IX is the MiVEC. I think thats what its called. VTEC is on hondas. Honda developed it first. MiVEC is what mitsubishi named their version of the system.
Sorry to be accuracy police, but the 2005 all came with the 10.5 hotside, not just the MR. Besides that, good summary!
