WRX STi vs EVO MR
Well, I have both. An 8MR and an Sti (GDB type E, just before they changed the nose) so I think this will be pretty fair.
1)&2) The superior car - as stock they are more about your preferrence rather than the cars themselves. I prefer the Evo, it has better brakes and suspension. The Subaru is better built IMO. The Sti looks smart but the Evo looks mean, specially with the bronze volk TE37's. I prefer mean 'cos I'm nice enough already
3) Drive system - The Evo. Mainly because of the torque split. The Subaru has a 35:65 torque split F:R which is an attempt to make it handle a little better. While this works around tight and twisty stuff, it takes getting used to. (Yes, there's the DCCD, but that doesn't solve it completely). The Evo's 50:50 split is more predictable. The 06 Sti has a torque split or 45:55, I have been told.
There's also another side to this. The Subaru's layout means that the gearbox can be simpler, or rather more like a conventional rwd gearbox. The evo has a transverse engine so it has a more complicated setup which is less efficient. However, each gearbox can and does use a different oil to optimize its purpose.
From racing folk who tend to use their hardware rougher than we do, the Sti tranny will break before the evo.
4) I chose both! But seriously, if I can only choose one, it will be the Evo. Like someone else said, it's like a watered down race car whereas the Sti is like a pumped up road car. In other words, I'd rather have a really hot chick without makeup than a fairly hot chick with makeup.
Hope this helps.
Somhow I feel I'm going to be harassed about the dccd.
