Good luck with the project and even though the sarcasm was unneccessary, thanks for the reply about the regards about the 9 turbo.

Finally an update!
Here we go guys... the holidays sure do make you lazy
12-30-05 Project EVO IX Update!!

Starting to look like an engine bay once again.

A closer look.

The Sard Fuel Pressure Regulator setup with the Defi fuel pressure sensor hookup.

Just wanted to show the piping underneath the car. Fitment is perfect.

Helix test pipe fits perfectly.

Artsy fartsy.

Radiator overflow & HKS Twin Power Ignition Amplifier

Some custom work that JDM Mel Gibson did. We welded the flap shut on the wastegate reroute piping and made this custom dump tube.

Another view.

Just wanted to show the clearance of the under body braces in relation to the HKS downpipe. (This downpipe is specific for the turbo kit.)

Everything is almost buttoned up.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.........
We learned that to fit 1000cc injectors on the stock rail you will need to file down the spacers.
The Oil drain tube needs to be repositioned 1-1.25" to the left on the oil pan side to meet up with the drain tube coming off the turbo.
The standard HKS Racing Suction kit will not work with the OS Giken clutch kit due to the push/pull conversion. A custom intake will be fabricated.
The DLI II we used is the same as the Evo VIII, it is a direct plug and play device.
The Koyo radiator requires us to use a slim fan on the battery side.
The VIII's FCON VPRO harness plugs are not close at all to the IX's configuration.
The HKS R Type Intercooler bolts on proplery with all the brackets. There are no issues with fitment of the intercooler. As far as the piping to the turbo, that had to be modified a little. This is specifically for the turbo kit; I don't have info on the stock IX turbo + HKS R-Type piping setup. It might fit perfect for the stock IX turbo. though. Some of the under body splash guard had to be trimmed.
Anything else I will keep you guys updated. It's late and I think I'm forgetting some things but I'll let you know as it comes to mind.

Just a quick shot of my own IX MR. Soon to be Zeal & Volk equipped

Thanks Ed for saying this, yes, the bickering does get old. Looking forward to your next update.
Ed / Mike,
Any reason why you guys used the Helix test pipe instead of HKS' own metal catalyzer? The RS kit doesn't fit? Hmm... I'm considering the GD Max Twin Plate and wondering if it'll have the same clearance issue with the intake kit. Any thoughts?

I think that any kit that converts the way the oem clutch functions is going to have fitment issues.
I guess Helix test pipe cause we didn't want any catalyzer at all? :P
I have some pictures of an HKS Cat thats over at SP right now, they look REAL high quality. I will post up later.

I am interested in the peak numbers, but also I've read and heard that the Mivec should allow for quicker spooling aftermarket turbos. I'm also interested in how linear the power is, and if there is a difference in peak TQ with addition of Mivec compared to a similiar equipped VIII. Should be interesting.
