I don't care wether he test drove it or not. (Riiight ) The point is he lied about who he was to get attention from somebody whose time is very important to them. If he had just been a mature person upfront about his intentions, he probably could have gotten the same results. No one raises an eyebrow when people say salespeople are liars and how they got taken advanatge of, but they instead rally in support. I am just glad to see people react negatively towards this type of behavior on the other side of the coin.

Whatever. I call BS on this whole sorry excuse of a thread. I think he made it all up. Nobody would loan this kid a BMW all day just to dick around in.
yes, he could have been doing anything. How can you guys also judge his time?

Personally, I think I have enough pride to trip over something like a kid asking questions about the Evo, and being a few years from buying. I am a cashier at Home Depot, and I am the first to volunteer for any obscure requests. Yes, that means helping load lumber onto someone's pickup truck on a hot summer day (away from the A/C) or sweeping around the cashier area, etc etc. I've done it, I don't mind doing that little extra. I think that is something America does not take pride in. Everyone wants to do what they are told to do. Anything else, they think is a waste of time and gets upset.

So I'm sorry if you must raise the BS flag, or you must get angry at this story. In my eyes, what I did was perfectly fine, and if I were the salesman and found out that the kid wasn't serious, I wouldn't be mad. I would laugh it off, seeing how silly it is to pull up in a friend's BMW and tell them it was his. I'm sorry again that most people here don't think the same way I do.

But mods, please keep this open cause I'm open and interested for more comments, and the kind of people here at EvoM.

Because it is what I do for a living. I can empathize.

Hey, that's great. But do your customers ever play tricks on you at the register? Like ask you to ring up a whole bunch of stuff just for funsies and just say, "No, I'm not buying today, I just wanted to see what it totalled up to." And then leave it all there for you to put back up? They don't. IF you had just presented yourself in a mature way without making up some BS story, a good salesperson on a slow day would have answered your questions too. I've done it a lot. Do you realize how many people come in to look at Evos and don't actually buy one?

A lot.

As a cashier you probably get paid by the hour. Most salespeople are 100% commision. Now tell me again about how the valuable of people's time?

^ Exactly, that is SO America. Because it is a slow day, he will answer questions? Come on. And yes, I have had people come up to me to see how much things were totalled up.

Tell me again how you make commission on a slow day? ...Nevermind, I'm gonna stop arguing, because that isn't the point of this thread. If you guys, REALLY want to win, you guys can.

I'm a terrible person who should be burned to death in front of the population of the United States
. Happy?

I think salespeople do judge people by whether they think they can afford the car. It may be wrong but it happens and it's normal. Now if you were older, they usually don't try to judge you by what you drive up in.

More experienced sales people can generally tell whether you're interested or not. At a mainstream dealership where volume matters they will be all over anyone who comes in the door. At a higher end dealer like Lexus, BMW, Mercedes etc., they generally don't really bother you until you're ready to speak to someone.

I went to a Toyota dealership once and a salesperson was all over my then girlfriend and I. He practically forced us to test drive the new Corolla saying how great it was etc. when we were really looking at the Celica. After the drive he tries to tell us how durable it is and to prove his point he starts kicking the fender and the headlight. He says "look! no damage" I can say after that demonstration, I never want to buy a car there.

The amount of time he spends on someone who is obviously incapable of purchasing a car without parents help is directly proportional to how busy it is. That is just the facts of life. Try getting free advice/questions answered with a realtor, or a contractor, or a doctor, or a lawyer, or....

No one has ever brought up a basket/dolley/gurney full of items and asked you to ring them up...actually nevermind. It was just an analogy.

You spend time contacting old owners, go out prospecting, do a mailout, hang out in service and meet people having work done. You basically try to set an appointment so you don't have a slow day. Because you get paid the same to stand there at an empty register, or ring up a long line of holiday shoppers, I wouldn't expect you to understand this.

This has nothing to do with you getting the info you wanted. It has everything to do with you thinking its cool to decieve someone to get it.

This was just a simple story of how "status" plays a role in society. If I pulled up in a Lancer, would it have been the same?

Maybe it was best if I had posted this in the off-topic forums...
Wait until you get out of school and have a professional career and someone does the same thing to you!

You wasted that guys time and put miles on a one of a kind vehicle! Wow! That is really funny dude!

Grow up!

He didn't drive it mark, but I can see how you would be frustrated by something like this.

Unfortunately you are correct. Not quite a couple of years ago I went into a Porsche dealer to look at Boxsters and only one salesman showed me the time of day. I was officially snubbed by the other sales guys. Short story, I bought the 04 Box from Todd (real nice guy) but made sure to tell him about the uncomfortable chill in the air...Can you imagine A Ferrari Dealership?

I did something alot like this when i was 17 too (still am). I pulled up to the BMW dealership, my evo was a nice, and shiny and asked about M3's. They didn't have any but asked if I'd like to look at a Z4. I said sure because I was looking at verts for my dad this summer (this was true, got a Z roadster though). The lady asked if I was 18, I said no, she asked if I had my lisence with me and I gave it to her. She went inside and photocopied it, brought me out the keys and the dealer plates, handed them to me and told me to have fun. I didn't even ask to drive it. BTW the car isn't great, sluggish, unresponsive, compared to the evo it just feels like a luxury rental car. Much happier about the Z roadster but that's another topic.

People before you post; read that he did not drive the vehicle. I find it amusing as long as you did not prevent the salesman from selling a car to an interested buyer. If the man was knowledgeable and nice like you previously said. You should post his name and the dealerships name so we can send some buisness his way.

this thread is funny.

how many of you people *****ing at the kid have ever gone to look at a TV, or new stereo, or new furniture, talked to the salesmen about it for a while, then left go to buy the same thing on ebay for 50% off? i would imagine a very large percent of us here do that. and just so you know, IT IS THE SAME THING!@!!!

that salesman should treat everyone with respect, regardless of their interest in buying the car, their real intentions of buying the car, what they drive up in, anything. you are not a real salesman if you judge people. you're a cherry picker, and a poor salesperson at best. i don't care how many times you have shown someone in a dirty t-shirt a car, and they didn't buy it. the next one you tell "no" to is the one with cash in hand. it happened to me. i was the one in the t-shirt and untied shoes pulling in a beat up car ready to buy an STI. the salesman said, no you can't drive it. so i drove across the street and bought an EVO... the salesman treated me like a friend almost (he was my age, 23)... accomidated all my requests, and when i asked to test drive he said "SURE!, i have to check with my boss, but i know it will be cool!", 2 minutes later, keys in hand, i was test driving the car i would be driving home with.

the holyer then thow additude shows you DON'T know how to sell stuff. period.

thank you for reminding me, I got too caught up with other people.

If you're ever in Lafayette, IN, talk to Brad Belaire of Bob Rohrman Mitsubishi. He has a white RS, red Evo 9, and a Graphite Grey Evo 9 MR, all selling at MSRP. Really nice guy and knowledgable as I've been saying.

This post is gonna get lost so I'm posting it on the first page also.

This is so totally not the issue. Everyone has a right to seek out the best they want for their money. The whole point of this thread is he thinks he needed to front like he had a nice car, tell a story to get time from a salesperson to ask questions he already knew the answers too.

This has nothing to do with being frugal consumer taking advantage of a competitive economy.
