Question weird problems with hesitation

I have a evo VIII 03 and Ive been having this problem latly. When i hit the gas my car goes to about 4 grand and then drops to about 3800, lags for a little and then takes off. i dont think i have a boost leak i watch the boost gauge and it seems right. My friend said it was the cluth but i dont think thats right cuz it doenst slip and i can launch it still pretty good. I changed the plugs and put a walbro fuel pump in. Any answers im stunned on what it is?????????

When a clutch slips you'll step on the gas, and the RPM's will shoot up, but the car doesn't seem to be going anywhere, then it will "catch" and you'll start to move.

Boost cut? its been real cold in pa. Turn your mbc down a little and see if it helps.

I will tell you my experience with the clutch which sounds very similar to yours at first.

I could launch from a stop light and see no issues at all, yet when im at like 5th gear and am around 3500 rpm.. i hit the gas and there is a little rpm jump but then comes right back to normal.

After a few moderate mods and a few launches later, my clutch was then toast. once your clutch starts to go it does exactly what your saying. Trust your freind when he says your clutch is going especially if your still riding your stock one.

That would be because clutches slip in higher gears first, even when my clutch was totally shot it wouldn't slip in first gear.

what im saying is that his clutch is goin to the dumps and should not waste his time finding other things. Invest in the clutch and be ready to get stranded or limp along in 0 boost.

Yeah, when mine went bad it went in about a week, I couldn't even hit 2psi before it would slip.

i got like 5 good runs with my TBE, intake, intercooler piping and fuel pump with MBC. After 5 runs i couldnt hit .1 boost. I was in vacuum only and hardly could hit the damn gas pedal. Man that sucks when your not prepared for it goin out. Also sucked when driving and you got to a big hill on the freeway and you were scared you couldnt keep speed or you'd hit boost/HIGH RPM

It takes no more than 15 sec.'s to adjust a boost controller. Ive had issues like he's describing before and its turned out to be a number of things. A slipping clutch would make the rpms shoot up, not down like he said.

Where are you seeing it drop. IT goes up then comes back down... Just like rpm rising(SLIPPING) then catches and then goes JUST LIKE A CLUTCH MY FRIEND.

Adjust the boost controller is fine, but when you find its not helping then just come to realize its the clutch. Lowering the boost will prevent some slippage because your LOWERING it. of course it shouldnt feel as noticable so thats kind of a hard trouble shoot.

He still hasnt mentioned if he is still on a stock clutch or not. If so im still stickin to my guns on the clutch

yeah im still on the stock clutch with 24,000 miles. yeah it really doesnt seem to be the cluth. the rpms dont shoot up with out me going anywhere. if i hit the gas around 3 grand it will go to about 4 grand and drop then the rpms with slowly shoot up. not like its slipping. and yeah hes right it has been cold in pa. and i did turn my boost down a lil but still same thing. i was thinking around the line of ignition or coils????
