This whole thread sums up the EVO, it's anything you put it's mind too. How many other cars can brag about that?

the car is an all out performer point blank. to say its only good for one type of event is ridiculous. also alot of you have to think their arent too many local autocross events or road racing events in some areas. hell the only thing thats semi close for me to do is moroso motorpark to drag the car and thats about an hour away.

Im new to the forum and dont know how to poll. But maybe somebody could to it for me. How many evo owners were dsm 1&2g gsx owners. Me and my wife owned 4 combined before I got the evo and most of the people at my track with evos had or still have dsms.
Im guessing thats why drag racing is so popular with the evo. People know the potential for the 4g63. Just look at all the companies that make parts for the eve. They have all been tuning dsms for years.
Yes the evo is is a great rally, autox, and road car, its just in our blood to drag race them.

I'm also a DSM fanatic. I've owned two 1st gen turbo DSMs, and have worked on countless others. I love the 4g63 platform, however I was less than enthusiastic about the DSM's suspension geometry. Thats why I bought the EVO. It has the ridiculous power and accleration of an AWD DSM, but has an incredible suspension design and two extra doors to boot! The EVO (much like it's DSM cousins) is a solid drag racing platform. However if you want to go fast for cheap, the DSM is a much better choice (if you don't mind the mediocre suspension, unreliability, rust, etc.).

that's why i bought an evo. instead of excelling at one thing, it does everything fairly well, and you can load up the kids and go buy groceries!

It's actually quite difficult to properly launch an Evo and then nail the shifts properly all the way down the track, though. People think you just floor it and go, but that's nowhere near the truth. Look at the percentage of people who pull 1.6 60's in their Evo. It's incredibly low, because it's not easy.

This is perhaps the 2nd most ignorant statement in this entire thread. Way more skill to autocross? Way more *****? Haha, gimme a break. You don't even go over 60mph in an autox, and you're dodging cones. I love autocrossing, but it doesn't take anymore skill to do that than it does to drag race. I've been drag racing for 7-8 years with AWD turbos, and it certainly wasn't easy at the beginning. To the contrary, I started autocrossing last year, and in my very first even while on my stock suspension and stock Advans, I took 5th out of 85. No big deal - it was easy and took no ***** at all. It was slow as hell compared to drag racing and had no butterfly factor like lining up against a Z06 and beating him by .06 of a second. Road racing definitely takes more ***** and also requires skill, but how many people can realistically road RACE in their daily driven Evo? I love doing HPDEs and will be doing them all year this year, but that's still not even racing. It doesn't take much in the ***** department or skills department to do driver's education events. It is in no way feasible for the majority of Evo owners to actually go out and do wheel-to-wheel road racing. However, anyone can compete in drag racing.
I'm not going to disagree with you that its stupid so many people come in and say drag racing doesnt take any skill, thats just not true... it does. But I really want to point out that local autox events mean next to nothing, its basically practice/seat time/testing. Take your evo to an event where the drivers are almost allgood (national tour - prosolo), you will probably find yourself amazed at the skill level and development it takes to get to the driving skill these guys get to... you say "dodging cones and going 60mph is boring" or whatever, yeah thats your opinion dude, I dont see how that conclusion can be made but consider Pro-Solo events, where you actually line up with a car and run a mirrored track... so thats a little mix in of drag racing.

Anyway, all I am saying is that you attack those guys saying drag racing is stupid and easy, rightly so! But then your rebuttal on autox is pretty sad... oh well I just thought I would point some stuff out.

It's actually a win-win situation for all of us. It only depends on what motorsport you choose. Throw in a little bit of snow, gravel or rain and the evo rules.

The evo is a good autox car... sure its stock class (Astock) was won at the 05 nationals by a 993 porsche but it doesnt mean the evo sucks... just in that class its not the best (the best being a competition between the s2000 the c4 vette and then the somewhat rarely seen 993) but locally, anything can be fast

and then you say mods put you in SM... blah blah, well STU is a great class for the STi and the Evo and they do great in that

Re: My Post

Thanks all for all your voices on this post. I had a feeling I would get flamed on this, but its something I feel strongly about. I mean, the EVO comes from Japan, was built around the purpose for what Mitsubishi felt was important enough to build the damn thing, and that was to Rally/Road Course Race. I never saw drag racing on the list in Japan. haha. I feel the Drag Racing part is just us American old fashioned sense of racing the good ol' 1/4 mile just like our Ma and Pa used to do. haha. Personally I feel the STI would be better suited for Drag Racing, but then again that is the start of another arguement, and I am starting a fight here. Persoanlly I don't race my car at all. I have considered Solo II events which run about $30 bucks for the day and usually net you three runs where I live. So that would be fun, but if you don't know how to drive, I mean really drive to get a car like the EVO to its full potential then I feel your doing the car an injustice. I am one of those guys that keeps the car clean and waxed all the time, I have nothing to prove to anyone, and besides, I couldn't exctract the potential of this car, mainly because I can't drive like a Rally Racer. I will say this, The handleing dynamics of this car, did save my life about two weeks ago....long story, but when your doing 70 mph on a moutain pass and a semi cuts you off into a 3000 ft drop, and you have one chance to zig zag, slam on the brakes, then floor it .........well, after all the dust settled, I was in front of the semi, the car suffered no more than dirty tires.......and the EVO saved my *** from a 3000 ft drop, so I respect the car in many ways, and now have a new respect for this car. All I am saying is bottom line, Drag racing is an American thing, I really don't see it unless its in the backroads somewhere, being so publicized like we do here in the USA with NHRA and so on. Yes, the EVO is a sports "saloon" we know what it can do, and as long as your not one of the "A" holes racing in the street putting everyone at risk just to show off your wing, then all power to you. One thing though, Damn, That EVO vs. Z06 video is frickin SICK!!! Damn an 11.9??? does anyone know what his mods were? Are we talking straight strip car? or what.......Damn that EVO is the BOMB.....Anyway.........Your all awseome, lets keep it real, keep it safe.......and enjoy......
