Clutch Shudder When Cold

The Evo is an '05 with 11,500 miles on it and is 7 months old.

When the car is cold (it doesn't get real cold in Texas) I noticed a clutch shudder when releasing the clutch. No noises, I just feel it. It seems to go away after a 15-20 minutes of driving although I occasionally feel a slight shudder after it's warmed up.

The car has had a *few* hard launches at autocross. That is if you can launch hard with the stupid "clutch in rev limiter" that '05's have. I have noticed no slipping at all.

Is it time to shop for a new after market clutch?

If it is what do you guys recommend for a car that's used as a daily driver and weekend autocross weapon?

Thanks

I have this same problem, and if it's a mild shuddering only when cold and only at low rpm, it is probably a warped flywheel. I got mine at one autocross as the clutch was going out.

For me, the stocker is the way to go- it prevents me from breaking anything in the drive train, has good feel, and I'm use to it. I can't see changing it unless you're going for more than 300 WHP.

Too bad mine only lasted 15,000 miles.

I have 46k on my '03 and it's done this since day one. You just need a little heat in the clutch and then it'll go away. I'm still on the stock clutch and it's holding fine. In the mornings I just slip it a tad more for the first few get goes and then it's a-ok.

Mine does it too, especailly when it like 10 degrees out here in Buffalo NY. It goes away once it warms up, I am not worried about it.

Yeah no doubt, I feel that pain... Luckily it's been pretty warm in CO for a while.

Mine does that, too. But sometimes there's a humming noise... But, after getting warmed up it goes away. Is my clutch fine?

The humming is the throwout bearing..does it go away when you push the clutch pedal in?

23k on mine and it does the same thing when its cold. Always goes away. I wouldnt worry about your clutch until it starts slipping.

From what I hear, those Exedy Hyper Singles do it right out of the box. One of the girl members on here has one and she says its pretty loud.

like everyone else says, it's normal. My 05 MR has done it in the cold since day 1. If it's any consolation my dad's 2001 M5 shudders in the cold too.
