I really hate the fact that the cops bust on you guys out in Cali, that was the most gay video I have ever seen. I would have slapped that cop silly, Who comes up with that crap?
I wonder if they have ever looked at their police cruisers or high speed enforcement vehicles, I bet they dont know that their shiznt has illegal crap on it. I will shove that blue hose up that cops a$$ and hook it up to my blow off valve, and then rev the motor to 25psi. POP!!

So again, its no the cops fault your breaking the law. VOTE.

But that's besides the point. It's the fact that these things are handled selectively. I hear louder exhausts on Harleys and domestics, but the import crowd seems to get a bad rap. Heck, there was a link somewhere to a forum with Massachusetts Police Officers where they refer to "ricers" and talk about how all the "Jap import crap" has "fart cans."
Mark my words, if someone is ever arrested for not popping the hood to their stock car and said car is impounded, some PD is going to have a mess on their hands. You're talking lawsuit city, and I will be watching from the sidelines with a smile.

Anyways, the cop said "The reason I pulled you over is that exhaust is too loud (Helix) which leads me to believe there is no cat under the car, both of which are an equipment violation" I said "One, my county in PA (Monroe where the car is registered, inspected and Im licensed from) allows any type of modification to a vehicle as long as it upholds factory emissions style equipment, which will lead you right to the aftermarket cat under the car. Matter of fact, the PA state trooper I just sat next to in a Wawa remarked about how loud my car was and where he could get an exhaust like that for his Lexus IS300, so its totally legit"
His response was "Well, its not here in Jersey, but the state is prepared to let you go this time on that one, but the next time you will be ticketed with a noise violation and failure to meet emissions equipment requirements."
I looked him dead in the eye and said "GO AHEAD, GIVE ME THE TICKETS, it'll hold water like a screen door"
Im lucky though....PA is very easy going.
Cali just wants all that money, some politician blows it all outta proportion cuz some *** in a fart canned civic is doin his daughter and it all went down hill from there.
They should concentrate on real problems...put those cops with nothing beter to do into some bad schools to stop shootings and crap like that, not some guy who likes to tinker with his car. YUCK

Same sort of thing happened to me in New Jersey. He ended up giving me a ticket for noise violation (he said its a town ordinance $40.00 I just paid it) anyway could have been alot worse if I didnt live in PA (where I am we dont even have emissions testing). he wanted to throw the book at me. Ive gotten a couple tickets in NJ over the years and hes right points dont transfer. Gotta love it
Ireally do feel for you Cali guys tho.

2. You are SO CORRECT its unreal. And no, not everyone is an *** out to get "ricers" I have seen many a domestic harrased for the exhaust too. But lets face it, NA 4 bangers sound stupid. The harley thing is subjective, they do not have emissions equipment to begin with, the ONLY thing they can be cited for is decibel.
3. You are again OH so right. And I loathe the day that happens to, but to qoute one guy earlier, "You are making a mountain outta a molehill" I have yet to see a stock car impounded. Lots of cops are clueless when it comes to car mods..... some... know what to look for. But even the clueless one's can find something illegal with almost every car.
Now, I want to get something clear. I own both a honda, and an Evo. Both are the stereotypical (to a cop) "ricer" cars. I have NEVER been pulled over, and I live in so cal. And before any one says it has something to do with my affiliations, nobody would have any clue as to those UNLESS I was pulled over to begin with. I don't wanna give a false impression to the out of state people who visit this board thinking cali is just impounding left and right. The worst I have ever gotten is a double glance. And just for reference, my exhaust is a greddy Ti with a custom DP and cat-delete, its not exactly quiet.
Edit: I also wanted to throw this out there. You guys gotta realize, cops read stuff like this. More often than you think. Do you think a cop is more likely to ticket you when you are a disrespectful ***, telling him he has more important **** to do? Or do you think maybe they might show a little lienency if you say "You know, Officer, I know I broke the law, and I know its your job to enforce it, but I want you to know I DO keep it on the track, and I while I appreciate your concern for the citizens safety, you have my word that I want nothing to do with jeapordizing that, or furthering a bad image on my car loving community. Maybe this time you can let me go with a warning? I would appreciate it!"
Chances are, he's gonna say "drive safe, don't be stupid" at least 99% of the guys I know would say that. Almost every officer I know also has a passion for cars, or bikes.

It is not really that bad. I got pulled over like 3 times and they never gave me hard time for the mod. I got the exhaust ticket but it is nothing compared to what I have under the hood.
I know one day I will meet the cop like the guy in the video. So I am hiding my mods. I paint it black or wrap it around so it won't look suspicious. I like my hi temp slicone black paint. I can spray anything and it will look like stock parts
. I showed to the people I know and they thought my stock intercooler pipes are the after market part.
They were not impressed when I opened the hood. So, I think I am safe for now

what most ridiculous about that video to me is the guy getting arrested because he wouldnt let the officer search his car. Seeing a muffler on a car didnt qualify as good enough ground for probable cause to me.
What ever happened to needing a warrant for search and siezure...isint that in the constitution someplace?
Cops are asshats.

BTW, the constitution means squat when dealing with the officers. You might get a case against you dismissed after going to court, but there is nothing you can do to prevent any policeman from doing anything he wants to you or your property. Sure, later you can get stuff thrown out of court or whatever, but at the time you and the cops are interacting they have all the power backed by the state. Even the most ridiculous accusations and statements can be enough for your arrest.

. If they claim self defense who's the judge and jury gonna believe.. Officers of the law or some hot rod driver... If they inpound your car or anything like that, the most relief you are likely to get is to get your car back. You'll get nothing for your inconvenience. If the car is damaged during the inpounding or afterwards, you have to prove it and that would be hard to do.... I don't think that there is anything good that can come out of these situations except for the cops.
When the last American leaves "Kalifornia", be sure to bring the flag! LOL! California SUCKS when it comes to politics!
Here in FL we don't have any emission laws or inspections! I was recently pulled over twice within 4 days. Both times the officers thought that I was "some kid" because of the wing, until they approached the vehicle and saw my cane,LOL! They were both very decent and told me it was no big deal and sent me on my way (one even invited me to a shooting match!) with out a ticket.
As a former MP, I know that you are not required to comply with a states vehicle emissions or safety laws if you are passing through said state. You are only required to comply with state laws that said vehicle is registered in.

(i.e. the 4th ammendment) What's the probable cause for the officer to have someone pop the hood on a completely stock vehicle?
Officer: " I saw his stock muffler and became suspicious? I saw his stock wing?" Give me a break.
What if the driver happens to be Asian? I bet a good case could be made for racial profiling.
How about (again) no search without a warrant? What's the probable cause. I'm not a lawyer, but I think a lawyer will have plenty to chew on if and when this happens.
And just for the record, I was pulled over by a CHP officer a few months back. I was speeding (not too crazy--like 85 then down to 75 on a highway). I was respectful to the officer, he was also very nice. Gave me a warning. I have no problem with the police. I do have a problem with 4th amendment violations, among other things.

Thats what I have been trying to say this whole time. Even as you guys *****, its not doing anything. This ammendment was enacted THIS year. Meaning that great governor you guys loved so much, guess what, he don't like you. Again, not the cops fault.
So seriously, before you pop off with your bull**** outta your *** wisdom to a cop, know the law. Just from your "cops are asshats" I can totally see you going "No officer, I don't have too!" Guess what, you do! So because you were uneducated, and mouthed off, your car is gonna get impounded.
If your gonna be an ***, at least be a SMART-***.
What gets me is that if you can afford a 400+ HP SVT Cobra, E55, M5, Modena, 911 Turbo, Corvette, etc. the cops don't consider it meant for street racing. Those cars (stock) are much more powerful, dangerous, and many are just as niosy (Modena) as my Buschur w/magnaflow. Are all sportscars meant for street racing, or just the ones owned by people with less money?
It's straight-up discrimination against the young, middle class, or thrifty. Most publicized street racing accident in years, the Enzo crash on PCH, was comitted by a guy w/2 Enzos and a MB McClaren SLR. Cops would never bother him until he wipes at 160+
