Brembo warranty update 4/20/06
Brembo warranty update 4/20/06
I just got 3 of my Bembo's replaced today under warranty at a dealer....I asked alot questions and this is what I did and my recommendation to you guys....
1. Don't be a *****, be very nice but firm.....
2. Ask to speak to the service manager
3. Ask him to take photos of each caliper
4. Ask him to send them to the district manager
5. Car must be under warranty..mine was 32k on the 36k warranty
6. It will definitely help if you haven't done any brake bleeding..this takes away their excuse.
----------------------------------------------------
He stated: Mitsubishi is aware of the problem...and it's caused by brake fluid....
I stated: Well, I don't believe that is correct unless it happened during assembly...not to mention that it's part of servicing the car..
He stated: Well, you could have had brake work done....
I stated: Please check my cars history and check my pads and you will see..
He stated: Hmmm...I see.
He then took pictures of each caliper and said thanks for showing him it is part of his job to address these types of issues....and said I will get back to you tomorrow...which he did! Hard to believe!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is what I think is going on.....Mitsubishi is aware of this problem on 03's and 04's... They are NOT going to issue a TSB on bad Brembo's for 1000 cars because it will be too hard to get all of the warranty money back from Brembo nor can Brembo afford to give it. So, as in any of these cases they are going to go case by case. The district manager told my service manager that "it's not going to cost me any warranty dollars in my territory".....this is the key phrase. It means Brembo has owned up to a defect and is now paying Mitsubishi on peeling brakes that meets the criteria......
Hope this helps..

I did all the steps you described and got denied. My problem with all this is that Mitsu is not consistent with this issue. Why are some people getting it fixed while others are not. It is simply not fair and it should be illegal. Currently I feel like I was personally discriminated against.

Apr 8 '05: Initial report of pealing Brembos - Denied by dealer #1 in PA
Apr 10 '05: Opened up case with MMNA. Was told to see different dealer
May '05": Saw dealer #2 in NJ, got denied too
May 25 '05: Called MMNA asking for a valid reason other that "District manager said so". Customer Service unable to provide answer. Told Regional Rep would get back to me.
Oct '05: Nothing from MMNA, wrote a letter requesting reason for denial of fixing defect in writing
Oct 2x '05: Got call from district rep to meet him at dealer #2
Oct 28 '05: Met district rep. He took pics and said he needs to consult with regional rep.
Nov 10 '05: Got call back from district rep stating he is still waiting on regional rep
Dec 9 '05: Got call back from district rep. Will not replace as there is no safety or function defect. Asked for this to be put in writing
Jan 3 '06: Sent e-mail to district rep with reminder to provide reason in writing
Jan 9 '06: Received by e-mail official denial from MMNA that they will not fix this issue and that it is actually not even a defect. See for yourself:
Andy,
As I had stated in the past, there is no defect. This is a cosmetic issue regarding a suspension component. The brake caliper is not part of, or attached to, any portion of the finished/painted body panels (hood, fenders, etc.). There is no performance or any other operational issues with this part and no safety concerns are eminent.

So there you have it. I just can't stand the unfairness. If they are going to deny it, why is it not denied for all? Why is it so selective? That is just so wrong in my opinion.

If you use your car at the track, have brembos turn brown & also have clear coat pealing then I would not expect to have it covered due to track abuse. And if you turn your bremobs brown (out of your own choosing at the track), then you would probably not care about the clear either - just like you stated above.
If the car is a non abused, with calipers still bright red and clear coat flaking off, then I can not understand why mitsu is covering this for some and not others (especially NE folks).
