Question Full boost but no go!?!?!?!

Okay i got a question for everyone....i installed my ic pipes and cant run my filter until i remove my bov and replace it in another position because right now its right in the way of the intake pipe. So well i have to run it without a filter, so that means just the intake pipe and maf. Now lets say your in third gear and just floor it the car builds boost all the way to 22psi...on a stock ecu.....but once at 22psi it feels like there is no power the car doesnt really go anywhere. i thought it could be a boost leak but nope i dont see any....then i thought maybe its my hks bov not holdin boost but i'm not sure......i understand i need a tune but would adding ic pipes do that much of a mess up to your current ecu??dont know if i explained myself right but if anything plz ask because i seriously need some help here. i will update tomorrow when i put that bov in the right spot so i can fit my filter. BTW my IC pipes are injen and bov is a hks ssqv bov. thx in advance.

Why people continue to harm their Evos I will never understand...

Without more specific details, I can't say I've heard of someone building 22psi without feeling any power. I can't think of a reason for that off the top of my head...

Since there is no resistance from the air filter, could that be the problem? no restriction of air, nor air volume limits? I have no idea either.

if you mean by not having the car tuned like i stated...i need a tune, and i will get it done...it just take me little bit longer where i live to get a awd car tuned...i'd have to drive minimum 3 hrs to go to a dyno to get tuned. but that car isnt exactly my daily driver so i have no prob. leaving it in the garage until i get tuned but my question is....is that my prob on the car...is it that i just need that tune and that's it? or maybe is there something else someone can think of that is going wrong here.

without the air filter the MAF can't read the air flow is my guess... the air is too turbulant

thx..ppl that was one of my guesses. and about the 22psi the car really goes fast till it hits 22psi...then it feels like it just doesnt hold that boost, but on the boost gauge it shows its holding 22psi.

Check all your intercooler hose connections carefully.

I would perform a pressure test on the charging system after reinstalling the air filter. Im sure if you do a search for a pressure tester you will find some links on how to make one if your not sure.

Oh, I thought you were saying it didn't pull hard at all. You're saying now that it pulls hard until it reaches full boost, and then it dies?

I have the exact same problem. i did a boost leak test and the BOV was leaking where it bolts to inter cooler pipe so i replaced the gasket but it still has the problem, it runs fine till about 15psi then starts to fall on its face and it leans out to about 16 AFR at 20psi. Still reads 20psi on the gauge but it definitely doesn't feel like it

Holy necrobump. At least some people here are still searching.

Is your car tuned? Did you boost leak test after replacing the gasket?

it has a tuned ecu in it thats just had boost cut, speed cut etc removed and slightly more aggresive fuel map to compensate for 1.5 bar boost. It was running fine with the ecu and then i replaced the fuel feed line from the filter with braided and new injector o rings, i did test for leaks after the new gasket and the bov was sealed but i could hear something around the throttle body but could not find it so thought it might of just been the air moving inside the pipes

Get a spray bottle with soapy water next time you do a boost leak test and spray it around anywhere air would leak from. If it starts bubbling, you have a leak there.

Your AFR leaning out that much doesn't sound right. After you fix the leak(s), you should get the tune checked out. If you changed fuel lines and such AFTER your tune, you definitely need to get it checked and likely retuned.

Sweet yeah will try re doing the boost leak test and will take bumper etc off to make sure all the silicons are tightly sealed. I wouldnt think that the new line would change fuel that much its the same size line just stainless braided not the factory rubber one?
