Thanks Everyone!

I would like to again thank everyone for their concern and kind words. I actually went and got myself involved with work all day today (yes today is Saturday), just so I wouldn't think about it so much. I had lunch today around noon and didn't eat all of my Burger King. I'm now at home, it's about 10pm and I still don't feel like eating. My wife is gonna order a pizza and force me to eat though. I've just felt sick about it all day. And now I'm driving around this rental Sentra, it just reminds me of how good my Evo was.

I was waiting for someone to make a comment like this. ^^^ I think since the vast majority of the peope in this thread have made positive, helpful comments, and there's only been one negative comment I'll just leave it at that and not even respond.

I guess I'm gonna have to wait until Monday to see what my insurance adjuster says about it. I'm gonna try and meet with him at the lot to go over the car with him.

Again, thank you to everyone for your concern. I've found this thread to be very helpful and I think it's helping with me cheer up and not be so down about the whole thing.

I will keep this thread updated with what I hear.

He said he didn't see. There's a difference between looking and seeing. Perhaps it was just quick glance and he failed to see her, perhaps he was distracted/ blind-spotted or whatever. It's safe to say it was a momentary lapse of concentration combined with the other driver not doing the most correct of things. As I understand it, she must have been going some under the amber to make that big an impact.

Whatever it was, the guy's had a fair few miles on the car and I think it's far from driving with your eyes closed - clearly he would not have made it so far if he has them closed all the time. The from his descriptions, he seems to have understood what happened and his main point here is that he's upset about the state of this evo. No one is saying he's not in the wrong but equally important is that what happened was not intentional or particularly risky.

Every accident is avoidable to a certain extent. If you take road accidents to the extreme degree, 100% can be avoided if everyone just takes the train. I don't think it's stupidity. Road racing or running red lights for example are stupid. Negligence or lack of concentration IMO best fits this case.

If anyone can claim they're never going to have an accident in their car they're lying. It happens and sometimes you're in the wrong and sometimes someone else is. That's just the way it is.

Some definitions:

ac·ci·dent
n.
  1. [*]
  1. Lack of intention; chance: ran into an old friend by accident.
  2. Logic. A circumstance or attribute that is not essential to the nature of something.
Source: American Heritage Dictionary
Note: no mention of anything being unavoidable.

I don't think there a single evo owner who would walk away from their wrecked evo happy. I don't care how rich you are or how many other cars you have. So telling the owner "you suck(s)" is really very unhelpful IMO.

Stop harassing the guy... that is not a request.

The important thing is everyone walked away from it. Yes, there are down sides, and yes repercussions, but what's done is done. The wounds that hurt the worst, are always self inflicted, so ease up off his jock (old man trying to talk young ).

It was an accident.....he confessed to it in his first post. These things happen. Two drivers going through a yellow light=accident. No need to bash him for something we all have done and got away with. It is a good thing he and the others walked away with no major injuries. Hopefully this will remind us all to be more alert and aware of our surroundings while driving. IMO, the car is totaled, I hope you can get a decent adjustor who also sees this and then you can be on your way to a new EVO. Good luck, and keep us posted.

If the roof is buckled, usually it's structurally damaged.

Sucks about your car, but at least you're ok. The car can be replaced.

It's just a car.

It's harder to replace you.

That's why we have insurance.

Just glad you're alive.

ps. Take some time for driver's schools, auto-x, HPDE, etc. It helps. Increases your odds of survival if this ever happens again.

Good thing everyone involved came out of the accident with very little injury. Sucks to be your Evo. Sorry for the loss. I know if I was driving home and someone pulled out in front of me like that, I'd be pissed as hell. Imagine this poor chick driving home and bickety bam, Evo pulls out in front of her from nowhere. Coulda been worse though. Good luck with your insurance adjuster, claim, and future insurance premiums.

I hate to say it, but you may be totalled with that probable frame damage.

I got whacked almost head-on a while back and thought mine would be totalled. After assessment by the adjuster, they deemed it repairable as the costs did not exceed the value of the car. Different states have different laws pertaining to repairing or deeming a car totalled. Some states will total the car if repairs are 85% of the value of the car, which I believe is the law in Illinois. My car was mostly cosmetic, except for two lower pullies. Even with just cosmetic and minimal mechanical repair, my car cost the other insurance company almost $18,000! Do you believe that? I, however, had no frame damage after the frame was assessed with a laser.

Good luck and let us know what happens. Don't sweat the haters. Unfortunately, you get some on almost every thread.

Oh, and that airbag thing may be a problem. It's expensive to re-pack those airbags. At least yours activated, right? Mine didn't fire in my frontal collision.

If the car is totaled, and value is more than whats owed, would they still cut him a check? With the other car having to be fixed as well I'd think they would put whatever he may have coming to him towards that. Not sure how the insurance would work that. Wouldn't be surprised if the girl in the other car and her friend woke up with back and neck pain the next day as well.

I really dissagree with this statement !

I believe that if you've had as much damage as he has on his on this thread regardless of what any kind of car it is no matter what kind of excuse you give even if you take it to the best shop in the world the only way you can make it even better is if you mold a brand new chasis together! and personally that's not worth it!!.

There is no excuse saying that your car is gonna be better after it has been in a really bad wreck.! (yeah right)
