Wouldn't be so sure tho. I had a friend with a celica. He was at a stop light when an black acura rearended him at about 55 mph his whole rear was pushed in so that his car was about 1.5 foot short in length and his axal was bent in a 90 degree angle which made his rear wheels point 45 degrees outward in opposite directions. I thought we was screwed and it was totalled with unrepairable chas/frame damage. But it was repaired and looked completely brand new even though his frame is weaker.

But I am not saying saying its repairable but you'll be amazed on what can happen.

Hey man, stuff happens. It just wasn't your day. For the Evo, RIP~ and I hope that you will find another Evolution just as good as your first one.

On the other hand, look at the bright side~ you can get an Evo IX with the MIVEC I hear Evo IX's are pretty fast for stock cars.

In any case, Good luck, glad to see that you're ok.

Update

Well, here's the latest. I spoke with my insurance adjuster today about the accident. He seems to think that because of the value of the car (an 05 VIII SSL KBB retail value is still ~31k!), it won't be totalled. NADA retail value is $28,725, and that's the value they use, but that's still a lot. Of course he hasn't actually seen the car yet. I've set up a time to meet with him and go over the car. I'm going to meet him at the body shop tomorrow afternoon.

The good news so far is that he has no problem with me taking it to whatever body shop I want. My words to him were, "I want the car fixed as good as new, with OEM parts, or I don't want to see it again." He said that he wants me to be satisfied with the work and we won't pay the body shop until I give the OK that it's fixed correctly. So today it was towed to the body shop I want, so I'm happy with that so far.

I know a couple people that work at the business and one of their body shop guys said, "They should total it, but they might not." My adjuster says that they use the following formula for determining whether the vehicle is totaled or not:

If [Salvage value + 70% of retail value] > [Repair Estimate] = Totaled

The part of this equation that I know today is:

[Salvage value?] + [(28,725 NADA*.70=20,107.50)] > [Repair Estimate?] = Totaled?

I'm still not sure what I want to happen. I loved my Tarmac Black 2005 VIII SSL. I went all the way to Chicago to get it. If it can be fixed, that's fine, but it WILL be fixed correctly and to my satisfaction.

If it is totalled, then I will probably try and find myself an IX. I'm not letting myself even think about an IX until I know more about what's going to happen with my car.

As far as the accident goes, I've decided that I AM going to contest the ticket. I made that clear to my insurance adjuster. I'm not going to try and point more blame at the other driver, although I do feel she is somewhat responsible. I am going to try and see if I can have the ticket reduced to a non-points offense. Anyone who has any advice on this I would really appreciate it.

Anyways, sorry for the long post. I'll update this thread when I find out more info. Again, thanks for everyone's words of support.

It might not be totalled if that is the formula that they use. I would think that the salvage value would be pretty high since there is no frontend or engine damage. I've seen Evo IX's salvaged that looked like yours for over $15k. Good luck

I would hope my car is a total if it looked like that. you could have many problems after the car is repaired.

I bet they total it once they get an estimate judging by the crease on the passenger side roof and that she hit you with enough speed to spin you (also I'm surprised the car didnt stall) the frame has to be bent in which case it will never be quite the same dispite what body shops say.. Pray for them to total it... Good luck

First, the car should be totalled and you want this because it will never be the same no matter what repair shop you use. Second, don't contest the blame. I was in a wreck 8 months ago b/c a driver pulled out without looking. If that driver tried to blame me I would have found him and kicked his a**. I don't care if the girl was talking on the phone and putting make up on at the same time. You pulled in front of her; maybe she could have swerved. If she did she might have flipped or hit another car and then the blame would be laid on her, and I doubt you would have been around to give out your insurance information.

Update

Well here's the latest...

To make a long story short, the car is totalled. My body shop estimated that there is roughly $24k worth of damage to the car. He said there'd probably be even more once they tore into it. My adjuster said that he was pretty sure it was totalled, but that he would call me back today and let me know for sure.

So today I got the call and he said after he ran all of the #'s that it's "90% totalled". I guess anything over 70% is totalled, so it was pretty totalled. Also, because the salvage value is so high, that also made it more likely that the car would be a total loss. I would have liked to buy the car as a salvage car for parts, but I just don't have the time, $, or storage space to deal with a parts car right now. I went and took some final sad pictures and said my goodbyes. I know it's dumb, but you kinda feel bad turning your back on a car you worked so hard to get. My wife said something like, "I feel bad seeing it like that. It used to be such a smooth looking car. And now it looks awful." To me it's almost like seeing a wounded animal. Something that used to be smooth and graceful, but now you just don't want to look at it.

So at the end of the day I'm left with a fair amount of $ to put towards a new car. Hmm... what car should I choose. Aww... who am I kidding. There's no way I could drive an Evo for 5 months and then switch to something else.

Today I started the process of seeing what area dealers can do for me as far as finding a 2006 IX SSL in black, just like my previous car. If everything goes according to plan I could have an Evo back in my garage by next week.

Thanks again to everyone for their words of concern, and I'll be sure to post up pics of my new IX.
