wierd sound
ok so whenever i shift gears past 3000 rpms i notice a wierd chachacha sound. i only started noticing it after i had installed my hks intake but even after i removed the intake it kept making the noise (not as loud tho). is this the sound of the stock diverter valve or is something screwed up because ive heard of turbos getting messed up because the diverter valve doesnt work right and the blade on the turbo spins backward or something and i dont want to have to replace my turbo. so if anyone could identify that sould that would be awsome
Do you have the stock diverter valve?? I'd almost bet on it that it is installed backwards. When it's installed this way you can definitely hear it fluttering when you change gears.
It's part throttle boost release causing compressor surge. The intake has nothing to do with it, but the intake makes the noise more audible. You should not install an intake without a tune first of all. Secondly, the stock BOV should not be making this noise. If it's backwards, as already mentioed, it will make a noise like that.
I used to get flutter with my stocker, and I get flutter with my Tial now, but yeah....
If it does it at any rpm or only at mid throttle and a little bit of boost, that's the question we need answered.
If the DV is installed correctly the nipple will point upwards.

ok yes this is the stock diverter valve and i know i should not get an intake w/0 a tune thats why i took it off and put the stock box back in. it flutteres any time i let off the throttle at all past the 3000 rpm mark. so yes if im flooring it and release to half throttle it makes that sound for a second. anyways i took a picture of how the diverter valve was reinstalled let me know if its upside down or what.

I was just doing a search on "backwards BOV" do to my recent finding:
This morning I decided to install the OEM BOV backwards due to some thought on it's design - diaghram is mechanically advantaged to open from boost side, why not swap this around (mechanically inclined to close with psi) but still keep vacume/open intact to crack it upen and vent the pressure as the TB closes.
Results: Builds and holds boost better than any setup I tried, but from the way the air hits the stopper it makes a loud wistle sound (hurts your ears).
