Whats in a Lancer EVO?
Whats in a Lancer EVO?
I have had my EVO now for over a month and I have read all the articles like you guys and gals have, I have had the rice boys wanting to race, people staring at the gas station saying "is that what I think it is?". You all know what I am talking about. You have read all the inconsistant articles on performance raging from a stock 0-60 in 4.5 all the way up to a 5.1 1/4's going from 13.08 stock to 14.1. You have read the good, the bad, the comparo's with the STi and what not. I would like all future owners of the EVO to just take this in. All the Subaru fans as well that may consider trading in their WRX or whatever. The Lancer is not faster than the US STi stock, we all can agree with that I am sure. But being faster in the straight line doesn't win races. Its the overall charactor of the car. That is what the Lancer has, and the STi lacks. The Lancer is without a doubt one of the best handling cars in the USA, even without the AYC. It is also has probably the best steering of any car as well. Everything on the car works together, and works well. I don't go around hot rodding my car looking for a fight. I cruise my car, and enjoy it as you guys should. Its not whats better, or mine does this and yours doesn't, its about appreciating a well built car. The Lancer EVO is a well built car. Its tight, solid and will take your abuse day in and day out. My friend recently fried his clutch on his new EVO with 700 miles on it. That's right 700 Miles, how you may ask? An inexperienced driver doing 6000 rpm clutch drops all day long and ignoring the burning smell thinking it was the new car scent from the motor is how. You can't treat this car like a rally car all the time. Remember this is the "street" version. It has the street set up with tires, suspension and clutch. So be carfeful out there and don't do something stupid on a public road to ruin the rep of all EVO owners. Save it for the track and show your stuff there, where it is documented
. Remember your break in period, and yes it is important. Use your synthetic oil, and take care of your ride. I will promise you if you do this, this car will take care of you. I have waited ten years for this car. I am treating it with respect as it deserves and has earned. Just my thoughts.......

No, it is not the fastest straight line car and probably is not the absolute best handling one either. The Viper stops in shorter distances and several cars have much higher top speeds. The key to the car is the whole package. Price, styling, performance and yes, exclusivity. You just don't see EVOs everywhere you look. I've owned mine for about 2 months, drove it to Miami and back and visted several other cities in Tennessee and GA. I've not seen another EVO on the road!!! I personally like that. I enjoy driving a special, well made, high performance car.

Thanks all for your feedback, it truly is a special car. All wanting one, see it for the whole car. Don't buy into the magazine articles, since many of them are very biased anyway. Just appreciate it for what it is, a very well built, very capable, fun to drive car. I honestly feel this car has the "edge" over the STi. Not in HP, but in the overall package. Thanks for listening guys
