I'm driving it as an American citizen though.

I'm just finishing up my last year at university here.

They are illegal in Canada for the reason you stated. Pretty stupid if you ask me...

Stupid of me to even drive one here, because it just screams out for attention...

and its not their laws (cops) its your laws you vote your legislatures into office. if you dont like the laws do something about it instead of complaining. its the state that wants the traffic laws enforced.
What he meant was that the cops look to bust somebody just because they don't like the kind of car they drive. If it was an old buick that took off from a light and then cruised at at 85, nothing would have ever been said. My Evo is black, so the cops don't always recognize it from a distance, but you should see how they fumble for that radar gun once they see that wing!

Well goodluck. I was sitting in a car in my driveway with the music on warming up. The cop pulls into my driveway and asks for my license and registartion. Because I was sitting in my driveway. Since Im young , he even asked me if i stole the car. Some cops can be real a$$ holes but not all of them. unfortunately my experience with them makes me stereotype them into all being jerks but I know thyer not. If they crush you car +1 to raising hell and calling local news.

Anyway, the light turns green I gun it onto the highway, 3 others go their separate ways, and my buddy follows behind me. We reach about 140/150 km per hour (I'm not sure what that is MPH. 80? 85 maybe?) and at that point we maintain our speed and stick in the left lane. My buddy is following me the whol time. Eventually we merge to the far rigth lane to get onto another highway, and as we are making a turn, 2 cop cars pull up right behind us and throw on their lights. They cuff us both and charge us for "street racing".

Apparently one of them was an undercover who was behind us at the light. And he then called backup.

This is the short version of the story, and it is exactly what happened. Now I am faced with having to fight this. If I lose, my car will be DESTROYED.

I was not racing, as I was simply going home with my friend. I will get a lawyer, but I just want to know if you guys think I will have a problem fighting this given the information I have given you. If we were really racing wouldn't we be trying to evade each other, going as fast as possible? Who races behind one another and maintains a constant speed???
Um, a bunch of cars sitting at a light with the drivers chatting. Light turns green and you gun it up to around 90 mph (which surely is over the limit) with your friend pacing you the whole time. Let's be real here - any cop who is watching this unfold from behind would have done the same thing.

yeah, there was an incident where a bunch of cops blocked in many street racers, they held them there for hours giving everyone who was trapped in this area (spectators, old ppl passing through in mini-vans) tickets for street-racing lol, it was stupid because ppl started trying to ram fences with their cars trying to get away, what did they think would happen?

i guess you cant get angry at cops though, they do their job and keep many psychos off the street, there are times where they should be lenient, like two guys racing or cruising on an open highway in the middle of the night, i dont see how that can harm anyone. you srsly want to move to japan because of this? if you can get ur car back come to us (wait it's way worse here lol)

Well, I would at least drive my car back to the US so they can't crush it. If you still have it.

snice: Already been pulled over under suspicion of having stolen the car.. about 100 yards away from my own damn house...

Yodo: And I would have understood it if it were a speeding charge, but they said street racing, and if it was street racing I would have not been sitting in the left lane maintaining a certain speed with my friend following me at a reasonable distance.

Dewood: Exactly... It was just harmless cruising. I do it all the time with other friends and in the past I have seen what would really be considered racing, with people going WOT weaving through traffic. That is dangerous and if I got pulled over for that and charged with street racing I would be worried about fighting it...

Anyway, as you said the states are just as bad if not worse. It's not going to get better either.

I miss being in Japan, and there's no need for a car there. I guess I'm just sick of all the **** I have to deal with in North America. The continent is deteriorating from the inside out.

i call b.s. that being said i am a cop in jersey i highly doubt it! get ur facts straight and take some college classes as to find out how these laws are created and what they are for. i highly recommend some government elect class so this way you can actually learn something instead of ranting on how corrupt and retarded cops are. its funny cause ur the same person that if your in trouble youll be the first to call the police for help.

Sometimes we can't all take college courses. I'm not saying all cops are corrupt and retarded, I'm just saying that there are a select few.

I don't think playing the "we're friends" angle is going to help... it doesn't matter if you pulled up next to the Pope and took off when the light changed green, the fact is that you drove aggressively and speeded amongst other similar cars doing the same thing... technically speaking, they'd have every right to charge you with "street racing".

I'm not saying you deserve it... I think it absolutely sucks, but the truth is, the law doesn't always bend for a group of friends just trying to have fun.

Pitbul: You can deny it all you like, but I have about 3 or 4 friends who I grew up with, joking around how they want to be "corrupt cops" all through high school. Now they're in police training.

Not the kind of people I want to have positions of authority.

Face it, corruption is almost inevitable when you're given the amount of power than police officers are bestowed with. Hell, I'd probably turn to the darkside myself....

dew: very funny :P

playa: Don't worry, I'm getting the best lawyer possible so this will all go away. Too bad he's taking my money with him.

thats not what he said he acutally generalized all cops. if he did not mean that then hs should have said that cop was corrupt because he was actually doing his job and enforcing motor vehilce saftey laws
