Face it, corruption is almost inevitable when you're given the amount of power than police officers are bestowed with. Hell, I'd probably turn to the darkside myself....

It all comes down to the cops, and what their personality is like. Most cops use their authority to just **** around with people, like that other one on youtube who pretended to pull someone over and just took off. That's some screwed up stuff.

Anyhow, laws are getting more and more strict, and more and more retarded. Like c'mon. It's just some fun at 2 A.M. with nobody on the road.

I would say hire a lawyer. If you ripped it to 90mph with someone trailing you, its gonna look like your stret racing.

I dunno if this would work, but I always wondered what a judge would say if you tried to say that you were, in all honestly, accelerating to quickly and above the speed limit, but that you have no control over another person's vehicle, and therefore should not be punished becasue there was someone else that was also accelerating quickly.

Think about how much it would suck that maybe one of the few times you decide to speed and just floor it, and then someone else tries to keep up with you, and then you get a street racing ticket for it.

honestly you commnets bare no weight i cannt even commnet on them when you make statements like that.

now if you were to say there is a very small percent probably less than 1% that are corrupt and abuse there power i would agree.

The same thing happened to me in Hartford, CT. Unfortunately, you will need to hire a lawyer. However, you shouldn't have to worry after that. In my case, I just had to give $75 to charity and nothing went on my record.

In my case I peeled out at a stoplight and didn't go over the speed limit, which is probably worse than what you did. (This was like 4 years ago, in another make of car and a bad idea for anyone who's thinking about flaming)

also let me give you some en site. since i have been doing this for like a total of 7 years. it is my experience that most cops rather do absolutely nothing and just answer there calls that they are dispatched to.
the reason being that the job is dangerous enuff that why risk getting killed on a mv stop (which has happened many times) is not worth a stupid ticket.
no there is also the cops that are assigned to a traffic division or like a highway patrol, state police where there main function is to write tickets. now there job performance is base on the amount of arrest, dwi's, and summons issued.
for the local cop like me. we have some street racing not much. but we do have our local citizens call our chief, mayor, counsel men, and say the kids with these loud exhausts keep running up and down our streets, and the cops dont do ****. so you know what the counsel men calls the mayor, then chief, then the patrol captain, the lt. , the sgt, all the way down to the patrol men. there is an old saying when i was in the Marine Corps.... **** rolls down hill, and guess how is on the bottom of the hill.
also i have owned an import since 02. i have had a wrx, sti, evo, e46 m3, and back to an evo mr. i have never been profiled or pulled over for no reason in the past 5 years because of the type of car i was driving, so the likely hood is when you get pulled over its because im sure you were doing something wrong.
another thing especially now after all the crap the nj state police, and the ca highway patrol have gotten it to. 99.99% of the cops are not going to throw out a 100k a year job, with free medical dental, and a retirement plan that lets you retire in 25 years at 68% of your salary.

and its not their laws (cops) its your laws you vote your legislatures into office. if you dont like the laws do something about it instead of complaining. its the state that wants the traffic laws enforced.
Just noticing something...
Why are there always people who enjoy going against the majority of the people?
Does it make them feel special?

Apparently this is only a scare tactic, but they are really cracking down. Because of it cops are now using any opportunity to call street racing when people are just speeding.

But because my friend and I both drive imports we were accused of racing.

We both live close to each other and were just going faster than usual because it was 2:30 in the morning and we were both tired and wanted to go home. There was no crazy weaving or WOT runs, it was just cruising over the speed limit...
They're not going to total your car... I go on the Toronto Strip a lot... The cops are full of ****. With that said, 140-150, is big numbers in an sub 80 zone. You twiced the speed limit.

And btw, how do you have an EVO and you're in Canada?

They see 5 import cars all decked out for speed, sitting at a light at 2am with all 5 drivers talking to each other. Discussing race details?

Light turns green and you guys jet out. Going to the race spot?

So out of the 5 original cars, 2 of you are keeping pace with each other, going the same direction to apparently the same location. Close race, perhaps?

I don't think I need to go any further to illustrate my point. The cops are not in the business of giving us the benefit of the doubt. They're law enforcement, not law interpretation. Interpreting the law is the job of the courts.

Go to court, tell the judge exactly what you told us and as long as your friend can tell the story the same way, you two should be fine. You might also try to get ahold of the other 3 drivers and bring them in too. Having more people who were present at the scene, all of whom tell nearly identical versions of the same incident, tends to hold a bit of weight.

You're screwed on the speeding charge though.
