Got a ticket for "Street racing"... but I wasn't... what do I do???
Im just going to point this out, but if you...
left the light hard, with your friend next to you
got on the highway, probibly not WOT for either of you, but you said you got up to around 90 mph pretty quickly
and then proceded to cruise going quite fast.
The first and middle sections, regardless of you or your cars actual performance, could have easily looked and sounded like a WOT run with your buddy following you. I know my exhaust is pretty loud even at only half throttle, especially if you run it out a bit. Im not trying to say you deserve this, because you really dont, but the cop obviously has no idea what a WOT sounds like coming from your particular car, and by leaving the light next to your buddy, and speeding, you dont make such a good case for yourself, especially if the police cars in canada have video cameras. On another note, I doubt they are going to AMERICAN titled car of an AMERICAN citizen. I think you could probibly go to the american embassay on that one, just because there are no laws in america like that, they would tell them to **** off and if convicted, charge you with whatever laws would apply where you lived in the US. But I really dont know jack about international law so thats a tossup. I dont think they will touch your car.

On a forum with 55,000 + people, you are going to get mixed opinions. Most often in disagreement, because more people feel obliged to point out difference in opinion, rather than simply agreeing and posting "yea that sucks man.." etc.
Well, this is what happened.
I was with about 5 of my friends at a light right before the highway. We were all parting ways so we were lined up at the light talking to each other. Anyway, the light turns green I gun it onto the highway, 3 others go their separate ways, and my buddy follows behind me. We reach about 140/150 km per hour (I'm not sure what that is MPH. 80? 85 maybe?) and at that point we maintain our speed and stick in the left lane. My buddy is following me the whol time. Eventually we merge to the far rigth lane to get onto another highway, and as we are making a turn, 2 cop cars pull up right behind us and throw on their lights. They cuff us both and charge us for "street racing".
Apparently one of them was an undercover who was behind us at the light. And he then called backup.
This is the short version of the story, and it is exactly what happened. Now I am faced with having to fight this. If I lose, my car will be DESTROYED.
I was not racing, as I was simply going home with my friend. I will get a lawyer, but I just want to know if you guys think I will have a problem fighting this given the information I have given you. If we were really racing wouldn't we be trying to evade each other, going as fast as possible? Who races behind one another and maintains a constant speed???

What was the posted limit? If you were doing 85mph on a local road you deserve a fat *** ticket, and should get your car impounded for being so STUPID.

Sorry to hear that Eggy, I hope your lawyer is as good as you say. Because just from hearing your side of the story, it sounds like you were racing. I'm sure the cop would have a compelling argument when he pleads his side.
As far as the profiling goes, I have to side with pitbul. One of my friends is an ex cop and he used to work the west side of town, which is the worst side. Many of you may not know anything about Birmingham, but if you look up the FBI's most dangerous cities, were usually in the top 10. I think we're #6 this year. Anyway, what I'm getting at is most cops are afraid for their lives when they make traffic stops, a lot of them don't even want to do it for fear of being shot, and all because someone has a tailight out, or an expired plate, or some other BS. It isn't worth getting killed, so a few of them would rather let stuff slide then risk it. But then there are those enforcement cops who's job is soley to right tickets. IF they see a bunch of kids in imports breaking the traffic laws, chances are less likely that they are going to start blasting as soon as the cop walks up.
Now that I am a little older, I refelct when I used to do crazy things on the road with my friends and how I got away with stuff I should have gotten ticket for. And even though I still drive modded imports, I've never been pulled over for simply being behind the wheel in one. I've even sped past (along with traffic flow) undercovers and detectives on the highway because I know they've got better things to do then write tickets. However, if I was out cruising late at night, I'd be mindful of what cars were behind me at a light. I'd know that most of time the only people out in modded cars at that time are racers and that the cops know this too and are looking for a reason.
I know you are in no mood for a lecture and I really do things to work out, but I don't think this is a result of a "corrupt" justice system out to get you.

I think cops are like everyone else, built in prejudices and ignorance. The US has too many stupid people as it is. Sounds like Canada does too.
I have been ticket-free and never even been pulled over once for the last three years and my daily commute is going through suburban nj towns. (I have a TBE exhaust too)
Since our cars are attention hors to the police (cops love to stare at me when I pass them), there are certain times that we should drive extra slow/careful, and this is the night-time. Anytime after 11 o'clock if I am in suburbia I shift at ~3500 and drive like a grandma. I don't need the extra attention of my TBE exhaust and I am always +5 over the speed-limit, never more or never less.
Get a lawyer and get it sorted out.

i strongly agree with you man, there are too many stupid people in this world. you should see how most people react to gun owners when i was in the firearm industry. it's heart breaking seeing all the hobbies you like getting banned....
So let's see, you were driving 90mph with other cars with foreign license plates in a car that isn't even legal in the country you're residing in, fully aware of the fact they're impounding and crushing cars.
And we're supposed to feel bad for you?
Do me a favor, when your car looks like this please post it in Evo Show n Shine.

youve never done excessive speeding? lets say he was doing 85 in a 35... youve never done 140 in a 65? come on dont bull****
Don't know what to tell ya bro. you said you gunned it to get on a highway. Even if it wasn't WOT, it was probably still faster than normal acceleration. AND you weren't by yourself. So it can easily be mistaken for racing. So the cop really wasn't that wrong. Hope everything works out good for ya.
Dem: The 404 is a 100 zone. I was speeding, but it wasn't anything that unbelievable especially with the little amount of traffic at 2 AM. I explained how I own an Evo in a previous post and many different threads. I'm a dual citizen.
Pitbul: I have been profiled so much it's disugsting. Pulled over once for NO reason by 3 undercovers thining I stole the car. Pulled over again for illegal exhaust while I was doing 60 in a ****ing 60 zone in a stock Evo. I have nothing good to say about the police in my area. My only friend who IS an officer right now is a complete idiot as well.
Evo: As far as I can tell, I shouldn't get a speeding charge as they never hit either of us with radar. I do realize how it could have been interpreted as racing, and I'm glad that others feel the same way that I do, that the officers made a mistake.
However, the way I was ripped out of my car, cuffed and thrown into the back of their car for a non-criminal charge is very frustrating as well. My friend had his hand cut by the handcuffs because they strapped them on so tight.
BTW, as the cop who was interrogating my friend walked by the cruiser I was in, he looked in and said "They're going to smash your ****ing car up" with a dirty grin on his face.
Thinking about this more, are there any ****ing cops that can actually just do their jobs without being complete ******?
Karta: I'm a dual citizen so I can be charged as a Canadian.
Evo637: This was on the highway at 2 AM with little traffic. The limit was 100 and we were doing 140-150 max.
Pitbul: If I was racing, I would have been going much faster than I had. The only part that I could see being misconstrued as racing was going off at the light. But I didn't launch and I didn't even go that hard. To a Malibu, anything seems fast. If you really think it's racing though you should probably never cruise with friends over the speed limit again, I'd hate to see you get caught for "street racing" too
I guess it's the same for anyone who feels I was racing. When you're cruising with your friends at higher speeds than normal you're always racing I guess right? Man... what the **** is the point of driving anymore? Soon you'll get pulled over by cops saying you were racing to beat your own record? who knows..
