E-BAY parts that work well (evo only)
On my old '03 I purchased a few items off ebay because I hit a deer going 70 on the highway...
Needless to say I bought an XS power intercooler, an $80 3" turboback exhaust (It was topspeed performance I believe?) it was an auction with no reserve. I won it for something like $25 bucks plus $55 shipping. Came with test pipe.
Overall the exhaust was well worth it, but let me say it wasn't the prettiest. It did start to rust after a month or so. The Muffler and tip did polish up nicely however, and any rust was easily removed with an SOS pad. The fitment was good, but one of the hangers required some bending to fit right...probably shipping damage.
The intercooler was decent for the money. I wasn't really looking for that much performance, just something that was better than stock for less than what a new OEM one cost. I paid $150 for it. After I installed it I did a boostleak test and there were no leaks what so ever and the fitment was good. It did come with intercooler pipes as well, but I only used the LICP.
My car came with ebay jdm replica tail lights, and they look good, next to my friends evo with authentic jdm evo 9 rear tail lights, it is hard to notice any differences.
I already had a walbro 255
Hks suction intake
AMS boost controller
I did get a mail in flash after I put the parts in, and I must say the car really came alive. I didn't have the car dyno'd but I would say it had ~300whp.
I sold the car to one of my friends a couple years ago, and to this day the intercooler and exhaust have held up just fine. The muffler still cleans up and looks good, and the rust never got much worse than when I had it. The tail lights still look as good as when I had the car, and no condensation has gotten in them.
He bought some used hks 272's and had the car retuned and dyno'd. He put down 330whp, 320wtq on a dynojet.
So for roughly:
$250 for the used hks cams
$150 for the intercooler/piping
$60 for the AMS boost controller
$80 for ebay exhaust
$175 for the intake
$200 for the tune
=$915
That's not bad for 100+whp over a stock evo 8.
Would I put another XS power intercooler on my current evo? NO. I prefer to support someone who has put real effort and time into designing their own products, not just replicating someone else's work.
If you are on a budget however, I would recommend the exhaust I got. Sounded good and fitment was good as well. I believe I have a video of the exhaust somewhere on my computer, so if anyone would like to hear it I can try and post up a video.

Just read entire 19 pages and here is the Summary:
Turbo Outlets made by ssautochrome don't fit well
other O2 housings on ebay work well
FMICs on ebay are hit or miss and appear to be replicas of larger comanies IE the sponsors on here
almost all who bought catbacks and/or turbo backs are pleased
Vortex Generators, almost all fit great
Turbo manifolds all crack after a short amount of usage.
Thats all I remember. Lol
also, I learned that Chinese children make 3 dollars and a biscuit per intercooler they fab

Ebay is fail. Any part from there is fail. It hurts the industry from knockoffs no matter how small it still contributing. Ordering from ebay is like gambling as well. My buddy ordered a cold air intake and got headlights. He ordered an exhaust a month later it didn fit. He still hasn't learnt his lesson. And for people that say the stuff works just as well I would like to see a dyno sheet of a namebrand part on your car vs the ebay part with the same setup that's only way ill believe it.
the word knockoff is misused I believe. I understand the intercoolers welded to look just like an ams intercooler, thats a knock off. The obx intercooler. Thats just obx trying to compete in the market. AS well as a lot of ebay parts. Its just companies trying to make their way in the market. Where they get the parts from is questionable, but they sell anyway. I have learned my lesson with some ebay parts, but some are a great bang for the buck. The tbe is the #1.
As for the obx intercooler a previous post made. I had one on my old 03 evo. It was a nice piece visually. The car made 330whp at ams, they didnt give me any **** about the intercooler having any problems.

Ebay doesn't manufacture parts for cars. Ebay is no more responsible for the "knockoff" parts and inferior parts than name brand quality parts. Ebay is simply the medium in which the sellers can reach the buyers. Therefore, unless you have feedback on an experience buying a specific part from a specifc seller from ebay you are not actually contibuting to the thread.
I had my APS intercooler damaged by a shop and purchased an inexpensive intercooler from as a temporary replacement while my APS unit was being repaired. The APS unit is a direct stock bolt-in replacement with nice attention to detail. Comparing fit and finish the APS unit is much nicer and bolts in with no issue whatsoever.

I have purchased a few parts from this guy and they have always been the correct part and shipped within the specified time listed in the auction.
The universal unit wasn't Evo specific and doesn't appear to have been made for the Evo when mounted. I did have to fab some brackets for mounting, but that was no issue for me. Had I taken my car to someone to have the brackets made I would expect to pay anywhere from $40-100 depending on materials and shop rate.
For normal street use at my current power (380hp) I would recommed the universal if someone wanted the polished look or was replacing a damaged stock unit. Otherwise, I would simply stay with the stock unit.
The previous owner of my car was running meth and at higher hp levels the APS unit may be more efficient, but I don't have a comparison of the two at those levels. I have considered doing an E85 tune and will come back and give a comparison of them if I do. I can confirm that the universal unit I bought doesn't leak and I have had no issues with heatsink. Likewise, I've see no power loss at 27psi.
