installed my ams copy intercooler and ebay pipes today
That post by Eric@AMS seems to conflict with this post by Martin@AMS:
AMS advertises their unit as gaining around 15-20 whp over stock on a stock turbo setup. If the ebay IC lost 10 whp vs. the AMS (which isn't consistent with the 5-8 claimed above), then it's still ahead of the stocker.
Well let's clear some things up.
1. The Ebay IC's do not use the same core that we do. Our core alone costs way more than their complete IC kit with piping!
2. I have tested our core Vs. the ebay IC twice. Guess what, in a direct swap we lose 5-8whp on a stock turbo evo with the Ebay IC. Are you going to feel that on your butt dyno?, probably not, but you just paid money for something that is barely better than stock. On a bigger turbo car you start losing even more power.
3. I've looking into getting cheaper cores to drop our pricing, and each time I do I get dissapointing info/results. There is much more to an IC core than the way it looks from the outside.

And anyone in this thread that says the problem with the US economy is that people are being too cheap doesn't know what they are talking about. The average American person spent more than he/she made in 2006.
I'm sorry to dig this topic back up but after reading i couldnt help but reply to this...
NOTED: "i use ams and buschur products both, as well as ebay stuff"
OK so you guys are griping about guys in china making copy parts, but did anyone ever realise that MITSUBISHI IS NOT AMERICAN???
If this is the case and you want to buy from the hard working people, then stop buying your Evo's from america and get it from Japan where it originated from. lol i mean you guys are hypocrite for being biased against ebay.
I mean if its junk, then its junk but if it does offer some sort of gain i do not see the problem

Wow, dude, you better feel sorry. This "original" thought of yours has been mentioned in this thread at least 4 times.
Way to go!
Oh and we do get Evo's from Japan, not China or America.

I ran one of the biggest ebay intercoolers on my hatchback 1990 EF9 Civic and made 811hp 529tq. w/ ebay intercooler. but i did later down the road up grade to a precision. cause it was a ton ton much better.
I just wanted to chime in here. I've been using a AMS copy ebay intercooler for the past 20,000 miles. I have the knock light ecu mod to alert me of any knock happening. Just recently I ran 15 passes in a row at capital raceway in crofton, md. There was no waiting in between passes since there were only maybe 6-8 cars at the track total. My car did not knock what so ever and ran consistent 12 second times the entire time. This might not be a official test or anything, but it definitely seemed to hold up well against heatsoak if you ask me.
then you are simply brainwashed by all the big companies that are simply riping you off and making a fortune from unintelegent buyers spending rediculess amounts of money or the simplest of products.
in the honda world theres are countless of 600+hp cars running $150 ebay intercoolers. It just a matter of time before evo owners get smarter and eccept ebay intercoolers.
anyone that spends $500-1000 on a exhaust or more than 100 for a licp is an idiot
when in fact is mearly a U bend with a few welds on it . anyone that can change their oil can make a licp for like $50 or less
the only people that hate ebay are companies and shows because simply ebay sell many quality parts that no one can match for the price and also ebay sell name brand parts that also most shops cannot match in price.

I have heard so many people bash the ebay products, particularly the Intercoolers and Exhaust systems. I have considered getting the intercooler, but am "skeptical" I guess because I, like the rest of the evo community, have so much trust in companies like Buschur and AMS and they all tell us that these suck and heat-sink and all kinds of other stuff. honestly, I will probably get one. I bought the ebay special exhaust (XS Power) and I honestly love the exhaust. I am getting rid of it though for one reason--the nasty "JDM slant" it takes; dips down like crazy under the rear suspension and then back up for the muffler. My car is on S-Techs for the time being, and when sitting on flat ground I'd say it sits about 3" off the ground so I scrape all the time, and I actually broke one of the hangers off due to this. that is my ONLY complaint about the ebay exhaust. the materials used are of amazing quality, it looks good, and sounds fuggin amazing. I would like to have the money to get a $600+ intercooler, but I dont, so I will more than likely get the ebay piece, especially since my stocker looks like its seen war and came back with a limp...
