Chalk it up on the board full of these. Another statistic I guess.

Whatever new car I get its going to be just that - NEW. Either an '07 STi or an '06 IX. I'll learn the car from the ground up, take it to tracks, and know everything I can about driving it. THEN I'll start modifying it after I know exactly how to drive it under any condition.

Once I learn about whether or not the car is totalled and whatnot, there will be tons of stuff for sale in a big wreck/partout thread. Until then I've just got to wait - so keep in touch with me.

Sorry for the above comment, if you perceived it to be an attack, it really wasn't. I make it a point to post that same comment in every crash thread (usually about 10 a day) just because I'm tired of hearing them (nothing personal). AWD gets plenty of traction under throttle, but if you start oversteering in the wet, sometimes more throttle is NOT the answer. It just takes experience (not to assume I have more experience then you). A lot of drivers get really cocky when they buy the Evo (some are even veteran track drivers) because of its very stable handling characteristics and high overall limit of grip. Not alot of people (even experienced track drivers) drive confidently in the rain, hell it scares the **** out of me actually, but because the Evo is equipped with AWD, many automatically expect wet handling to be incredible. Well, the wet handling ability of this car IS actually incredible, but its NOT a substitute for seat time and experience in performance driving in wet or low traction conditions (having advans doesn't help either). Perhaps you should have slowed down when you noticed the road to be wet. I highly recommend autocrossing in the wet or some other safe closed course circuit before you decide to test your ability on real roads, dodging trees instead of rubber orange cones. Glad to hear you and your passenger are safe, let this be a lesson you will never forget, and again, I am not trying to personally attack you or patronize you or your driving abilities.

I would definitely try to get back to the car to yank parts off it....there is probably $4-5000 worth of salvagable parts left on that car

Its all good. I didn't see it as an attack. I'm just legitimately stating my inexperience in thinking that AWD is inheritently an answer to traction problems regardless of driver experience.

Yeah thats what I was thinking too. I can't do anything though if it's not totalled, obviously. I'm really hoping it will be - I really wouldn't feel comfortable driving it if it was fixed as it will never feel the same, plus its nearly impossible to sell a car for it's worth when these kinds of wrecks happen, ugh.

Oh well, I'll see how it turns it probably in a few days.

I know exactly what is on that car and where it is on the car. If I find that stuff is missing besides what flew off the car during the crash, I'm murdering everyone in the establishment.

Alright maybe I won't murder anyone, but I'll be mad and they'll hear about it.

on Reservoir Drive just Southwest of Montclair State University.

EDIT: In fact, if you guys want. Check it out. Open up Google Earth or go to maps.google.com and search for Montclair State University. Directly south of the the campus you should see E. Normal Ave which should go west and lead into Normal Ave and then go into a 3-way intersect with Reservoir Drive. If you were to make that left (the wet patch was right at the left turn) at the intersection and travel south, that stupid slight little S-bend is the location. I crashed right after that. What a stupid little turn, eh? That thing doesn't even deserve to be called a turn.

You should have gone there as soon as possiable and taken pictures of all the parts on the car. If you go there and see stuff missing theres no way you can prove they took it or didnt fall off or even if you had that part at all. Hopefully you have nothing to worry about. I hope everything works out in your favor with insurence stuff and your new car

Hey man I feel you. I was playing around the other day in the rain. Turned left at a light and broke the back end on purpose, then went to straighten up and it broke the other way putting me into the other lane. Lucky no cars were coming but I was headed for a fence and water run off area. I got back on it and was able to get the car straight again and continue down the road but for those couple seconds my heart was in my ***. AWD is a lot of fun, we all know that, but it can turn on you in a second.

Through the whole story what happened was a mistake and I am sure in the future you will be more cautious. What sucks is we learn from our mistakes, not near mishaps. You are your girl are fine and I am sure for you knowing she is okay is what was most important. Once the car came to a stop I am sure you asked "Are you oky" to your gf, not "OMG my car", that prob came afterward.

Through it all you sound like a young man who is rather grown for his age and I commend you on admitting you made a mistake. Good luck with your future purchuse. It is sad to see the car go, but eventually everycar will become scrap.

I really appreciate your post.

Actually though, my girl hopped out of the car before I did and ran around to survey the damage, so I assumed she was okay and didn't actually ask her if she was alright until during I started whining about the car, heh.

I've been told before that I act older than my age, which is cool. Thanks, and yes I have no problem with admitting mistakes. Discussing it with others and learning from them helps me move on, improve, and come out a better person in the long run. Can't sit around and linger on past mistakes - just have to keep on truckin'.
