blown motor
There's more to all of this than just meth or no meth. The comments about adding power without beefing up the rest of the engine to manage that added power are exactly right.
In my case the #1 rod bearing spun while I was just cruising the freeway at 60 mph. While my car has never run meth, it was fairly modded and spent alot of time being driven hard (lots of track days & almost 40k street miles). In my case I got lucky and the only damage was to the crank.
What actually seems to have caused the failure in my engine was that the rod bolts had stretched form all the hard use. If I had installed upgraded bottom end hardware my car might not be in pieces right now. With the rebuild I'm upgrading to ARP bottom end bolts & studs to match the head studs I had already installed.
I honestly feel the failure was my fault - I did know better, I just figured there were so many Evos running big HP set-ups on the stock bottom end that the fasteners could probably take it. In my case I was wrong.
I think the lesson from my situation is that if you do run the car hard then you need to look at the fasteners. The stockers will take alot of abuse - but they may eventually fail, too.

I totally agree with you regarding all mfr's having assembly issues, defective parts, lemons etc. However Mitsubishi continues to CLAIM great warranty while we all know that really it doesnt amount to anything but a big hassle to get them to make repairs.
I own an 06 STI. Even Subaru offers better warranty support than
. Although I agree with you, a friend recently blew up his 07 STI at 5K miles with just a conservative cobb map and an intake / exhaust. Here's the kicker though, he took it to the dealer with all parts on the car and they are going to replace his shortblock because they know those mods didnt cause the car to blow up.

That is cool tho how subi will cover it...
