Do you let people borrow your Evo?
For all of you who have said 'no'. How did you get interested in cars and become a car enthusiast? For most of us, it's those first few rides that spark our interest. But I think what really got us interested are those times when someone let us drive their high performance car. I believe if this is how you first got interested in cars, then you should be willing to pass that on to a few others. Not maniacs who don't know how to drive, but friends who show a genuine interest in your car IHMO deserve to be able to take it for a spin.
Man, i didn't expect people to have such strong opinions on this! It actually looks dead even right now as far as people that NEVER let ANYONE drive their cars vs. people that are ok with it (with or without them in the passenger seat). I love my evo as much as the next guy, but i think that you guys that are automatically in the 'hell no' mindset should loosen up a bit.
I'm stupid for not mentioning this in my very first post but a HUGE part of the reason i bought an Evo was because a friend of myne let me drive his MR down a few backroads with him. We took a spin with me driving the car and pushing it a little here and there, and then he drove on the way back and really showed me what the car could do.
You hear tons of stories on people owning classic cars now because their parents or friends gave them rides or let them drive, allowing them to really fall in love with whatever model car it was. That's sort of what happened to me except my lag time between dream and reality was about 6 months
Share the wealth Evo drivers, you could be holding back a generation of future Evo owners!

People I know? Never
Family and close friends I do. Its funny because when they drive it, they are so careful not to accelerate too hard etc... I tell them they can go WOT just so they shift carefully (smooth and to avoid diff slap) and also to never launch it.
****, I only tried to launch my car twice since I got it and none of it was past 3k rpms. Probably when ever I get a tune, I'll have them set the stock two step to 3k rpms. As long as I can manage a 1.9 or 1.8 with that I am the happiest evo driver. I dont want my car to be the fastest, i just want it to be my own preference (very quiet with maybe about 330 whp with excellent power band and I'm done).

I can count on 1 hand and have fingers left the number of people I have let drive my car and none of them have taken it out on the street. It's either pulling it in/out of the garage for service or Dustin valets her when I go bowling.
My GF took it around the parking lot at the stadium a couple of times and she was shaking like a leaf afterwards. My brother is afraid of my car. Most of my local friends all have Evos, so they don't need to drive mine.

Some of you guys sound way over-protective. If they are a car enthusiast and a decent driver I don't see a problem with you riding shotgun while they take it for a spin. If they are a scary driver, then fine don't let them.
I don't own an Evo, my neighbor who does won't even give me a ride in it. I have a sneaking suspicion that he's worried I'll ask to drive it. I've driven cars worth 10 times as much as his $30k Evo and own a couple nice cars myself. So there you have it, I'm a prospective Evo buyer, but no one will let me test drive their car so I've never driven an Evo. A couple STi owners have let me drive their cars though, maybe I'll buy one of those instead.
