Engine Mod vs Reliability

At what point does reliability stop with engine mods?

For the past 2 1/2 years I had 100% no issues with my engine
(because I am 100% stock) at what stage of engine performance mods does reliability suffer?

You could be stock or heavily modified and your reliability could start to suffer. It Really depends on how you drive. If you rag the **** out of your car stock or not, You've got a much higher chance of breaking something. Also with engine mods, as long as they're installed correctly and have a good tune, reliability should be up par. Just keep in mind the more power you make, the more likely something may break also driving habits will also determine how reliable your car will be .

Good question, interested in some more opinions as well before I start doing some serious mods on my car.

Well your question is way too open to really answer...The clutch appears to be one of the weak points on the car and seems to start suffering / slipping somewhere north of 350 whp / 350 wft-lbs ...If you are not launching your car like you're at a drag event then you may be able to push the power envelope a little more before the clutch shows its weakness...

watching this thread.....noobie to evo......by no means noobie to going fast. I have owned 4 different supercharged combos on Mustangs. A few nasty N/A v8 cars. Two nitrous sniffing flying *** cars.

I am liking the Evo and wanting to get informed on what mods to add to mine when I get it, or even what to look for when I go to buy. Which hopefully happens this month. Waiting to sell my 11.01 second 96 Z w 65k miles.

I'm running a cammed, bolt-on, 20g Evo. I just drove it to Ohio for the shootout (~1200miles round trip) with the a/c on the whole time

I think reliability has a lot to do with what kind of parts you buy and the combination that you put together.

i would say tune and driving style..

if your running alot more boost you can expect your engine not to last as long.. its being put under a lot more stress.. things are bound to have issues

thankfully the 4g63 is a tank...i would say when you get into racing...not necissarily mods...maybe once you mess with fuel and fuel management

Very difficult to gauge that question, there are so many factors.

I would say HP wise, 600-650 on a built block.

That is where I am about right now, I don't rag the hell out of the car at EVERY chance, but I am rarely out of boost. A LOT that has to do with it though is the TUNE, I would say 80%, and the other is how you drive the car, and how well you take care of it.

Supporting mods, Supporting mods, and Supporting mods. Make sure you take care of anything that could be the weak link on your setup, and make sure it is done right. Make sure and don't cheapen out on parts and service, that doesn't mean don't try and find a good deal, but most of my headaches are having things done twice, or having something not last because of trying to save money.

more horsepower=less reliability. Change your connecting rod bolts and take it easy on the drivetrain
