Oil light flutter! PLEASE HELP!

hey guys,

i bought my second evo ix mr, recently, and it has 3300 miles on her.

I started modding the car at 1300 miles with mods in my sig.

i had it tuned by Al of dynoflash.

PROBLEM:

after a few hard pulls on the highway, when i come to a stop and let the car idle in neutral, my oil light comes on and flutters really fast.

i checked oil and it is full and i just had an oil change 400 miles ago at the dealer.

also, my car has a really choppy idle (stock cams). It will idle at 900 rpms and every few seconds it will drop to 500 rpms and back to 900 and when it drops the oil light will flutter on/off.

the idle im assuming is because of the HKS RS intake or something...

but why is my Oil light fluttering on/off continuously after a hard run? it flutters fast enough that it almost looks lit up solid

thanks

matt

Evo's have very low oil pressure at idle, after driving the car hard for any period of time the 10-30 oil gets very hot and very thin. Most people who have a pressure guage will only see 6-10 psi at idle with engine very warm, although some claim to see 15-20 psi i have not seen one yet anywhere near there. your light is flashing because your idle is dropping to 500rpm, get your idle back to 850-950 rpm and your light will stay off.

Work shop manual clearly states 4.2 psi at idle engine warm is all you need so don't panic, your car is fine, Evo's are famous for the oil light problem.

Thanks a ton for the info. I've experienced this same issue but hadn't yet posted about it. Great to know it's normal

RS intake has nothing to do with choppy idle. It is def a problem, try to make sure your tune is OK. Also check your TB motor it might be acting up.

Sounds like the oil pressure sensor is goin bad. I've heard of a few IXs doin this.

Mine did this and it was the oil sensor, dealer replaced it problem solved. Plus whenever I beat on it a bit when I come to idle at a stop the idle seems a little lower. figured it was common for getting on it for a bit.

I see 15-20 at all times at idle. But if RPM's drop that low you will get a light. Just like after you change your oil you might get a light for about 1-2 seconds. This will not hurt your engine at idle. If you are reving/boosting and see this light their is obviously something wrong. get a gauge if you don't have one. 2 very important gauges are OP and OT I have both and live by them.
