Evolution IX - NA Production Numbers (updated)
me too! yay for low numbers, and i wonder how many have been totaled or parted out or stolen and never gotten back so far the #'s have to be less by now.
I'm going to play devils advocate for a moment here:
The RS is no more a collector's item than any other evo. Don't get me wrong, I love my car. I feel fortunate to have my SE and I don't blame the guys who are happy to have their far more rare RS. Good on you, it is pretty unique. From an outside perspective though, they're still mitsubishi's, and your guys' don't even have power windows or locks. I passed on purchasing two different RS's out here alone because they had been BEAT_TO_HELL. At least in both cases of the RS's out here, they'd been driven way too hard by some unappreciative younger owners.
With a stat like that, you'll definitely get props from other evo owners for sure, just not sure that even to this crowd it makes them a collectors item. Can anyone think of a baseline entry model for any car that is (moreso than their more feature-rich brothers)? Mitsu did a great job of making just enough to keep the demand up for *ALL* the IX's, which I think is pretty impressive. RS included.

IMO....The RS will not be more of a value adder on the streets....But, to those in the know, the RS, for me, is a substantial upgrade (Less is More i.e. 80lbs less).....Aluminum roof / trunk interior delete / crank windows / wing delete / rear wiper delete / ABS delete / Less interior sound deadening......You gotta love it......My buggy moderately modded / 382whp
Very nice, man.

I like the RS a lot, but there are a few things it lacks that add negligible weight that I want in a daily driver, like HIDs and power locks (windows are nice too, but I could live without them). Once you add those, you might as well have just gotten a regular/MR, what with how rare the RS is.
Shame is a pretty relative term here. Stock for stock, the cars all behaved nearly identical, but I see what you're saying. It's still 60-80lbs that have already been saved for you.
Rotational mass doesn't behave in the same way as static mass. It noticeably impacts every aspect of performance. Adding to that quotient, while outlining the bounds of a lightweight configuration, doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
You're spot on about rotational mass behaving differently and I agree.
You'll get no arguments from me about that. I was simply suggesting that the real world benefits of that weight savings, when compared to the other evos in a performance context is marginal. So, thats all I was getting at by saying the term "shame" was kind of relative.

Edit......Maybe I need the dampening benefits due to E85 effects =)

I called Mitsubishi and opened a Service Request asking for total numbers of 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions produced for United States consumption. The number I received back was 8,379. I didnt' ask for a break down among the different models (RS, MR, SE, IX).
Interesting. Looking back at the original post date (October 2007), I wonder if Mitsubishi is only reporting the number of units sold (not imported). I changed job in August of 2007 and looked into buying a IX at that time. Some dealerships still had new SE in stock as of that time period.

I would be curious to see how many of the IXs are still on the road (or total CT9As for that matter) due to accidents, theft, etc. Probably no real way to find this out...but would still be interesting to know.
