DSM Shootout Update
Just got back from the DSM Shootout. Lots of Evos there!

Mach V Motorsports set up a booth both days, and sponsored the Evo drag class. There must have been a dozen or more entries -- I've never seen so many Evos in one place! Times were excellent. I have to admit I was the worst performer.
The winners were all well into the twelves.
I am not what you'd call the world's most experienced drag racer. I haven't been on a drag strip for three or four years, and my three passes at the Shootout were my first in my Evo. I had 2.2 - 2.4 60-foot times, and a best time of 13.69. (This with a car that made 276 awhp on the Dynojet!). I did manage 102 and 103 mph figures, despite the horrible launches. I felt embarrased, though. The first launch, I completely smoked the clutch. It stank! The next two passes, I was too scared of burning the clutch up again, so I completely bogged. My worst time was a 14.4. Ugh! I could run down the track faster on foot!
I raced twice against Allan Friedman (Alfriedesq). Al introduced himself in the staging lanes and gave me the tour of his car. It's beautiful under the hood! The louvers aren't in the hood vent, so I felt like some kind of voyeur as I was peeking down through the mesh onto the polished HKS heat shield. Allan put down solid 12-second passes all day long, but with mph figures in the 118-119 range! I think if he could get a little clutch slip at the bottom end, he'd be into the 11's off the bottle.
I talked at length with Victor (whose last name escapes me right now) from Alabama, who has an honest-to-goodness Evo VII. Cool car! Victor managed a 12.4 pass after swapping on a Buschur Racing turbo-back exhaust right in David Buschur's trailer at the track.
All in all, I had a great time. Everyone I met was very friendly, all seemed to be having a good time, and all the Evos held together!
Here are some more pictures from my Shootout trip.

I stayed at the same hotel as Victor, he's a hardcore DSMer. Lotsa money bringing that Evo 7 into the states, it's a real sexy car.
I fell in love with AMS's Evo II. Right hand drive, and 140mph passes even with a terrible driver! It sounded mean as hell.
Don't feel bad, I got a 2.2 60ft time as well, I launched at 5k and it wasn't enough (bog city). Gotta launch it at 6k+ to get anything good out of it.
Edited to add - I was the guy who showed up at your booth close to opening time (on Saturday) asking about getting a Exeddy twin disc clutch. I still need one

Nice to see you all there and it was a blast talking with big Al! It was my first time on a pro-tree and I never launched before on the new clutch we had in the car. I screwed the pooch on my second run and bogged the launch (2.4sec 60' time) loosing by .005 of a second (still ran a 12.8) I ran a best of 12.2 at 116.48mph still with the stock turbo. I fabricated a turbo kit for the EVO8 3 days before we had to leave for the shootout but we had boost control issues and had to go back to the stock turbo. Overall I had a blast and I look forward to next years event.
BTW the EVO II had some clutch issues that's why it could not leave the line well.

Was there much of a rivalry between the DSM'ers and the EVOs? Or were they just "part of the family?"
I also talked with Victor on saturday and checked out the vii, awesome car -- love the seats!
My 60' times weren't great either - 1.9xx in round one and a 2.0xx in round 2 against Al. There didn't seem to be much of a rivalry with the DSM's, I think they were mostly in shock seeing so many in one place. I got lots of nice compliments and lots of lookers. Can't wait til next year! It was great to meet Al, Dan, Victor, and everyone else whos names I can't remember.

Al, it was nice meeting you! I'm sorry we didn't get to talk longer.
I ended up running a new personal best of 12.41@110.38mph with a 1.699 60-ft in my Eclipse. Traction was absolutely incredible!
Martin, 116mph on the stock turbo is amazing. Keep it up!
There wasn't any rivalry between the Evo and DSM owners. I think we can all appreciate a nice car.
