This story is for Rin Tin Tin............first oil change on my WRX.

The drain plug was on the side of the pan. I put my drain pan under this and watched all the oil shoot out sideways and hit the floor on the other side of the pan – a sea of oil. So, I ran over and grabbed a large sack of oil dry and started throwing handfuls of oil dry under the car. One of these handfuls felt soft and wiggly but I was distracted by the oil mess and tossed it under the car too. It was the biggest spider I'd ever seen outside of a zoo. Spiders make pretty good oil dry too.

Minor point maybe, I would advise against using ramps by yourself. I have done it, but in sub $2000 cars with old school frame rails. Worst problem if I drove off the ramp would have been did I break the ramp.

I remember my first oil change on the evo. Must have been a pissed off robot that put that filter on my engine. I used a strap wrench and it just started crushing/twisting my filter. I was like WTF??? so i went to the store and bought a huge @$$ pair of channel lock pliers. like big ***** that could fit around the whole oil filter. these just proceeded to smash the oil filter as it started to twist. So in a fit of rage i got out a screwdriver and stabbed it through the filter, added the giant pliars on and twised that mutilated mess the F-K off my evo. I have done hundreds of oil changes and have never experienced anything that tight before. (lol). What the hell was up with that?

I proceeded to fill it back up with Royal P. and put my mobil 1 filter on.

...and then drank a beer while looking at the filter in a curious sort of way. I tried to show my woman, but she obviously didn't appreciate the battle that I had just waged and won. lol...as always...

oh well...

just try harder man. You'll get it. (i hope)

The saddest part of this whole story is that even if the OP (only read 5 pages of posts) get's the drain bolt out, what's he going to do about the FILTER? That's by far 5 times harder than getting the bolt off.
