On another note. Some dealers would rather make $5000 profit selling one car, than $2000 profit per car on three cars. If a car dealer is so concerned about profit margin per vehicle, then he should change makes, and begin selling Saturns instead, as haggling isn't allowed, and the profit is all built in.
If cars were more in demand, I woudln't be surprised if all manufacturers sold their cars like this. Since general vehicle demand is not nearly as high as supply, this will never happen, and deals will be found everywhere.
Finally, I wouldn't feel bad if my dealer made two dollars profit on the vehicle he sold me, because I know that he will get somebody eventually, who lives under a rock, or is loaded with disposable $$$$ who will pay MSRP+++ for even a rally-art standard lancer.
SoFlaBBY, you haven't seen any yellow or whites with wing and roof around have ya? I just need to hold out for another 90 days until the 2004s get here, but these prices are making it tough.
Actually, there was a yellow one at the dealership I went to with all the factory options, including all of the upgraded accessories (shift knob, etc...) and they wanted me to take that one, but I told them I wanted blue.

nope, not mad at the dealers. Actually I almost bought an RSX, but was very glad I didn't after the blizzard of 2003 in Maryland happening a few weeks later.
Since my previous car (97 prelude) pretty much self destructed on new years eve, I needed a car so badly that I was in a rental when I made the purchase. If I could have only kept the prelude a little longer I would have had more of a choice (and probably quite a bit less dough in the bank account
)
Got a little inside information this week about the deals going down now in the Western States.
There are almost 700 Evos on the ground in California, Oregon, Arizona, and Washington dealerships with about 2/3rds in California. That's a lot for this car with '04's coming in January (see the same January Automobile Magazine - Evo Car of the Year - that all of the dealers mention).
Info purloined from some dealers;
Cost of evo out the door of the factory;
$25,731.99
CF wing
$418
Sunroof
$653
Destination
$575
Accessories on Mitsu web site have 20% profit built in plus hidden install costs.
Dealer cost with destination $26,306
Anything over that is profit for the dealer and they have two pads to bump the price on this vehicle; $579.74 for holdback and $579.74 for flooring. The flooring will not show up on the Web. They put this $1150 into the "invoice price" to bump their profit (you can't blame them for trying).
I've spoken with a bunch of dealers, and with so many evo's out there, some (not all) are willing to make $1000 or less on their deals.
Bottom line: Base Evo now at $27,000
Add a wing $27,400
Add a sunroof $28,000
Print out this e-mail and go shopping!

Just go and get one!
If a thousand here or five hundred there is stopping you from getting this car you really are missing out. Get your best deal, but don't deny yourself the EVO. It's worth every penny to watch the headlights of others disappear into the darkness.
You could probably get one at invoice easily. I did. I regret nothing. Silver with sunroof and wing, for a couple bucks *under* 29K. They even threw in the floormats.
Sweet.

How does telling lies about what you paid for an EVO make you feel any better about the fact that you can't actually afford one? The best deal I've heard of was on a 2003 w/roof & CF Spoiler for $28,500 plus tax, title & tag - out the door. Maybe none of my friends know how to negotiate. Or maybe there aren't any dealers out there who are dumb enough to take a loss on a specialty car like the EVO????
I do know my EVO is worth every penny

Like I've said all along, if you do your homework, you get your best deals. This week, I spoke with a bunch of dealers. Yours, with a cf and sunroof was offered to me at $27,800. It was a Blue By You.
With just a wing I spoke with 3 dealers willing to go$27,200 (two of them) and one willing to go $27,000.
This was southern california where there is a ton of inventory.
I've been told high volume dealers can get discounts from Mitsubishi. It is year end and they want to move the inventory. Some will throw in goodies and you have to be ready to make the deal and the best deals are made over the phone.
And I can't stress enough, politeness pays. When the dealer is giving away his holdback and going into his flooring, he wants to feel he is selling to a nice person.
One last thing. You can use the JD power questionaire that comes after you purchase the car as a bargaining tool. I've been told that if you are within a couple of dollars, telling them your price will give them a perfect score (or offering to turn the questionaire over to them after the sale would suffice too, Iwould think.) might get you to where you want to be.
Bottom line is your deal (wing and roof) today is worth about $30,100 to $30,300 out the door.
But that's today. In three weeks it will probably drop another couple of hundred dollars. Depreciation is $275 a month (epinion.com).
